Anyone else got awful weather--keeping horses in.

The weather up here is atrocious, horizontal rain and howling winds all day. My two little minis are absolutely soaked through but do they care?? I think not! Given the choice between a nice dry shelter and a big fresh haynet or getting even more wet in the soggy field which do you think they prefer...yep stooopid ponies! Rather them than me :)

In the south, horses all came in this morning as so much quicker to ride them all but the wind is getting worse and its about to rain all night so kept 5 in and left the unriddens out with instructions to look after the foal. Its very warm in the stables and its a nice american barn so they seem happy enough. Got enough food anyway...

Fields had flooded yesterday so they all came in for the night, it is fairly windy and rainy now but they are out for the night as it is forecast to stop raining by 10 and for the wind to drop! so for the sake of 5 hours in the wind and rain I kept them out as they were very fed up of having to be stabled last night. It was raining earlier and they didn't use their shelter- just stood in the middle of the field eating

All six in and the shetland she'd drown the mud so deep
. It has been atrocious weather. Stopped raining now but fields too wet to turnout. Muck out later and their supper bless them I'm running out of dry clothes!!

Ours have all come in too, even the foal. She crashed out immediately. Too wet in the fields to lie down for a good snooze! They will stay in at night now until we get some good crisp cold weather,... well I can hope!

We've got the same weather and I still turn my mare out. Mind you, she's only out 5hours but yesterday she didn't want to walk to the field :)

It's just horrendous, most of the horses have been in 3 days now, we normally only have that with bad snow/ice, but the fields are basically bogs :( And it's now raining again AND we are due another few inches over the next few days. Argh! Luckily we have fab facilties....outdoor arena (that never floods), indoor arena, horse walker and round pen that they can also be turned out in. We did get a few horses out this morning for an hour, but the rest stayed in...........they seem pretty happy anyway.

Only started raining here at 5pm, just as I was feeding them. I was expecting the rain earlier though, so I had left on their big rugs and I don't think they were very impressed!

All still out overnight, from 3yo to 28yo, when I left they were all bum to the wind eating hay, apart from the oldest who I had convinced to eat in the field shelter, that probably didn't last long though, they don't like being in when its windy

Mine have been out 24/7. However the sheltered area is now muddy & wet from my mare stood munching hay there pretty much non stop, & the dry grassy bits are too exposed in this for her liking. Usually out till early Dec at least. However when she came in earlier for feed/check/rug etc instead of taking herself back to the field (I leave door open, she chooses whether to go out or stay in) she settled down with her hay. After 20mins or so I got her back out to do a proper bed if she was staying in. Usually she'll stand loose herself in the barn, however she marched straight back in her stable. Which means the weather must be horrid, she doesn't really like to be in. What I'd do for shelter with hardstanding, never seen our field so wet, even in February when its had loads more horses on it.

Im in Lincolnshire just off the coast (about 7 mile) and upto now havent had any rain but the wind is horrendous...I was actually struggling to stay upright when I was in the field. Mine are all out 24/7 but do occasionaly come in if things get really horrendous. They have nice warm brick built stables...no rattling or scarey noises but they go crackers if I try and stable them when its windy so they are all out munching on hay and grass.

Anyone else in suffolk? im feeling like the odd one out as our feilds ok and not to wet? or is there an invisible roof over our yard that i dont know about???!

. What I'd do for shelter with hardstanding,

Ours don't always use ours though, some days they'll squeeze four of them in there (its plenty big enough, just some of them have space issues) then they get bored and hungry and just go and eat grass - we do put hay in there, but would need to be bales of the stuff in there with this weather! :D

Mine live out so are out!

I dont get this bringing in for days at a time tbh, quick recipe for filled legs and colic never mind boredom!

I learnt my lesson with this...fetched my TB in as the field was very muddy and he very slightly lame so thought a few days walking round the yard and school would help...was colicking within 36 hours and vet told me to kick him back out! I was a very bad mummy and felt like an absolute idiot but then everyone else I know seems to beable to change routines with no probs and were actually quite surprised when I told them what had happened.

Im in suffolk, fields are muddy but not waterlogged, but the wind today was horrendous. Mine were out all day tho, came in about 5 and were very pleased as well, even the shetlands ran into their barn. Planning on them all going out again tomorrow as long as they dont get blown away meanwhile

Lol stencilface, I'm sure that's what most horses do. Mine however hates standing in mud (we're talking hoof deep in the sheltered area) & won't venture through the (fetlock height) deeper mud to get to the exposed grassy dry areas. Where daughters rugless pony was happily grazing. If I win the lottery I'll have a roof built over a few acres for her use in bad weather. I'd die of shock if she didn't want to go out in the morning though.

Our fields are all water logged and most of yard so horses have been in since yesterday morning :( it's blowing like a hurricane at the moment and has only just stopped hammering down te rain :( I am in swindon Wiltshire x

Mine was out today, albeit a couple of hours later than normal due to the torrential rain we had. It's to clear up for the rest of the week which is just as well because I don't think our fields can take any more water!

I kept mine in during the day today :o
I very rarely do this but the fields are a disgusting, swampy mess and we are moving them to their new home tomorrow, so I decided that just for once I couldn't face dragging them into the field! At their new place they will have grass, plenty of space and next to no mud, so I will leave them out as much as possible. They'd have been in tonight though, purely because it's very exposed in their new field and there isn't much shelter.
