I don't think I've ever seen so many flies! Our poor horses are literally covered in them, especially their faces which more or less have a blanket of flies on them. It's made their eyes all sore and weepy, even Barney who is in during the day. Has anyone else got them really badly?

yes.... this year seems quite bad for fly's and now the horse fly's are also out in force. Took me over 1/2 an hour the other day trying to kill a horse fly, was sending my horse loopy and it still did'nt give up the chase..

Yep my Fleur is covered in them around her head. Unfortunately she can't stand fly masks but at the moment seems content to swish her head every now and then to get rid of them momentarily. Very annoyed at the horrendous amounts of money I've spent on fly repellant that does no good whatsoever!

I'm having a nightmare with them :( My poor boys are covered in them and there is nothing I can do. They have fly rugs and fly masks but they are still really suffering. Although I had a little luck today: I crushed two garlic cloves into my usual fly repellant and that worked a treat :) Although both me and the boys stank of garlic :P

Yes, black flies much worse than normal.

I assumed it was only local to me, as yard owners have let their swimming pool go 'back to nature' and it's full of fly larvae :(

Mosquitoe wipes are very effective on our lot, our mare is badly affected by flies of any description and is in a fly fringe 24/7 despite having a good full mane, the geldings always have a swarm of flies around their sheaths, again the wipes are good but we are outnumbered by the sheer volume of flies.
Normally I swear by garlic, ours have it year round, but it's had no affect this year
