I was wondering if anyone else had had a go at Horse Agility? I dipped my toe in last week after being press ganged (in a nice way) by the yard 'orange stick' crew. My horse is semi-retired but needs to be kept moving and since the course was coming to the yard and was super cheap, I thought it was worth a shot. I am worrying about the Winter as last year I kept him going with lots of school work as it was too dark to hack out etc during the week and since he's retired from competition he actively seems to find the school stressful so I have avoided it completely.

I was really surprised at just how well my horse adjusted to it. I have done a lot of groundwork/inhand polework with him so he does have a good amount of respect and trust. He even started to interact with the obstacles which is totally unlike him. Overall I thought it was fab. He should no stress about being in the school and genuinely was engage. I have since looked into the whole idea of competing in their online competitions and wondered if anyone else had?

I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to do something a bit different and fun with their horse. All 4 horses on the session seemed to have fun. I have written a little blog for my page and there is short Vlog including the whole course at the end on my Youtube channel.

It was useful with my younger one when he was a 3 and 4 year old. The most polite thing I can say is that he 'fully engaged' with the obstacles - he balled up the tarp with his great cobby hoofs and then got down and rolled on it. We went under a lovely archway which had gold streamers which he tried to eat and then grabbed the big colourful umbrella that I was trying to lift above our heads. He enjoyed himself A LOT! He is now 9 and still does tend to stop and look at anything slightly scary and then go towards it which is useful as I'm now far to wobbly to cope with a serious spin.

I did several sessions with my old cob, especially after he had retired from ridden work but still enjoyed a low-key outing. I've never tried the online competitions but have a friend who really enjoys these and takes part regularly.

I’m organising a fun clinic of this at my yard. It’s fun and something different. And good for building trust and confidence at meeting new things.

I thought my horse would be a champion, having done Trec. Well I was brought down to earth pretty quickly. I would do it again.

The same happened on our session, the NH trained horses were really naughty, not going through stuff, trying to go round all the time. They are all used to tarps etc and flags. My old spooky dressage Connie thought it was great, did everything as asked, didn't go too mad and stood and watched the others being naughty with a smug look on his face!

We joined a local club that did HA and other in hand classes during lock down. It was a life saver to have things to play at at home.
The coloured pony is my retired competition pony (23) and the bay is her companion. Companion was placed 6th I think!

We have since done a big International Trec Competition on line, a team event, and the coloured pony really came into her own and was the highest placed in hand. We are all a bit tentative in these videos!

That was so good! Looks like great fun, I’m wondering if I could do some of the stuff at my riding school for a change to my normal private lessons. Where do you get the plans/layout of the course?

It was set by Vanessa Bee, she is the queen (no pun intended) of the Horse Agility club. They run on line comps all the time, she set it for my club which is called the Alternative Equine Club. There are plenty of videos on You tube to show what sort of obstacles to make/do.

Aww he looks like he’s having fun ?

I did a bit with my mini rescue Shetland a few years ago at home, just found the video, he’s off the lead rope all through the cones and was doing so well then planted! Lol
