My Section D has had her feather scorched off by the mud; looks like they're been cut off. Will they ever grow back?
Don't have a turn out area and have just bought some turn out chaps to see if they will help.

I want to show her and they look awful:(

Has this happened to anyone else on here??

Any advice please? I have posted this before but didn't have any replies.

I bought equichaps, which had stable chaps free with them.

Yep, so did I and they ripped after my horse was in the field for 30 mins and she lost both in the field. They cost £55 and the stable chaps were free.

Mud burn is common if you keep them in muddy conditions. Once off the mud they will grow back.

To prevent mud burn, cover them in pig oil and sulphur - pm me if you want the very long PM I do about keeping feathers in show condition.

Get off the mud (if possible)

To restore - Megatek helps regrowth

Yes - my 2 Welsh D's had this this winter/Spring.

Friend lent me some dog mange/mites shampoo called 'Malaseb'. One wash of that sorted it and their feathers soon grew back lovely again.

We have horrendous mud here so I'm expecting the same thing again this year. Mine live out and it's not possible to wash and dry their legs or keep them mud free for any length of time.

It's also known as bog-burn and is quite common where feathery horses are kept in muddy conditions. My gipsy cob lost most of her feathers last year, especially on the front of her feet, but they do regrow.
