Frank goes from very dark liver chestnut to normal chestnut. He is at his darkest in spring and autumn, he looks normal chestnut in winter.

my daughters pony goes from lightish chestnut in winter to dark in summer, some years she looks almost liver chestnut.

FB is almost a bright orange bay in the summer and a fairly normal, if gingery, bay in the winter. I think he may be darker this winter as he has a colder climate to deal with.

My darkish chestnut mare is a totally different colour in her winter coat to her summer coat, and often it changes from year to year too. Right now, she looks like a tree changing its leaves as her winter coat, currently dark, has her rather orange summer coat on top in patches, although she wasn't that light before she started shedding if you know what I mean. Usually her winter coat is a bit more coppery than her summer coat once it has finally grown in. Mind you, when I bought her she had a very black mane and tail, but now her mane is looking a bit blonde in places and her tail is a mixture of colours. She's a bit odd, my girlie!
