Blimey! I wouldn't like to experience that again

I was casually sitting in my bedroom on facebook when it started raining.

It was extremely heavy - now I know we have all experienced some sort of heavy rain but this was something else.

Gutters/Drains couldn't cope people's house roofs were leaking! Gutters falling off houses!

As it was raining there was thunder claps every minute or so..

Then my mum walked in to my room
And there was a flash of lighting

My dad had counted the time between the flash and noise and it was only 1 second!

Then an almighty bang and this time there was no time at all between noise and flash

My brother shouted there was an almighty purple flash in his bedroom !

The lightning was right over our house or in the field directly next to us!

At this point we turned all plugs off etc

This carried on for 1 hour

After it had stopped (the thunder/lighting) not the rain we went up to check on the horses - I was worried as Java is very sensitive and mixed in with all the rain was large hail stones!!

As we were approaching the road right in front of the field I had to stop suddenly

All along the field hedge/road was completely flooded!

I stopped the car and got out to see how deep it was as didn't think car could get through it but we *just* made it!

Luckily all three horses/ponios were fine :) unusual for java as normally a little rain shower makes him shiver !!!

I can honestly say I have never witnessed anything like that before or have fork lighting above the house and my brothers room completely flashing purple and his telly suddenly went off!

Glad all horses were ok me and mum were honestly preparing ourselves for anything that might have happened too them :(

Please Weather Forecast no more lighting please!!

Hope everyone else who got caught in it was ok :)

The weather has been crazy near me of late, although quiet this afternoon, yesterday we had mini tornado's that did structural damage, combined with strong wind, heavy rain, hail you name it we had it

We've had the rain in the last day or two but not the thunder, we had a storm about 2 weeks ago but not as bad as yours by the sounds of it. It runs in my family to get struck by lightning so I tend to keep indoors when it's around and dread getting caught out dog walking over the Downs when a storm is around!
One of my 3 dogs is scared of the thunder too which is a pain. I like watching a good summer storm at night lighting the sky up but sadly we don't get the real good storms like we used to, ones that last more than 5 minutes and at night I mean!
Oz :)

Yep! A town just south of me, Waikanae, was hit by a tornado, and where I am had torrential rain, gale winds, hail, and a whole load of thunder and lightning. I'm guessing you didn't mean me though, since I'm in NZ!

After the first burst of hail. We didn't get the worst of it, as further south they had hailstones the size of golf balls! Poor Tally was sulking in the corner of his paddock during this, with his nose on the ground and his ears pinned back.

I did have plans to take the horse to the beach, but since we're under a severe weather warning (wind gusts up to 140km/h), I....decided against the idea. It was probably good, as we took the dogs out and this was the beach at low tide.

Well must have been a day for storms - here in NZ we had a mega thunderstorm - I was just about to shut down computer and router when all the power went!

I wasn't too happy either as I wasn't sure if I had saved my work on the computer - tax return time and I'd been checking off receipts against bank statements and had just finished. Don't know how many I lost but was not going back through again.

Power was out all over the town so all the Take Aways were shut so I had cold tinned spagetti on bread for dinner last night and no cuppa to wash it down with! No power for an hour so sat listening to the storm by candle light.

I was at Carlisle Horse Sale, the sale had ended, most people had loaded, those who hadnt just waited. There was at least an inch of water down the side of the shed and I felt sorry for the stall holders who had set up in glorious sunshine.
