My 11 month old lab bitch has just gone through her first season, I also have a stud dog. Meticulous care was taken to keep them apart during this time! Anyway now she is still being an absolute tart around him and he is very interested - as I type this they are flirting, she is literally shoving her bits in his face, lots of posturing, they are jumping around and he has tried to jump on her a few times. Now she is no longer in season could he still technically cover her? Would she even let him? Should they still be kept apart? Help!

Thanks :)

I'd keep them apart for another wee while. They can still be fertile after the bleed has stopped.
The bitch in my sig was a total tart, she would stand for her brother (de-balled!!!).

God, yes. My Boston goes bananas for "boys with balls". She lets them get to third base, snaps at the nose, then gets the male dogs to chase her.

Her bleed started August 8th, so I thought her season would be finished by now? Eek I though it was safe for them to be back together but after seeing their flirtatious antics tonight maybe not :( I haven't been watching them like a hawk these past few days believing her season was finished but she could still be fertile? Oh crud......worried now that they may have had a sneaky session whilst we've been at work

Purdey could give lessons in flirting!!:D
And it isn't just with male dogs either, she flirts round any man! She is totally in love with our friend Dave who we go camping with - she goes so gooey eyed and will sit on his knee wiggling her bum at him:eek:

I had a bitch who mated on her 28th day to our dog, after refusing to have anything to do with the dog we wanted to mate her to at the supposedly right time. She had a lovely litter one of which went on to be behind all my line for the next 30 odd years, maybe she knew best.
We also had another disgustingly flirty bitch who used to lift her tail to any male, canine or human, for over a month after she had been in season.:o

MM our previous Lancashire Heeler breeder would never make her bitches mate with another dog if they didnt fancy them. She did it once before and there was something wrong with the puppies and said never again, nature knows best.

My mother has driven to England before now for a mating and came home with nothing because the bitch turned her nose up (that was Neck v Arminius, MM :p) well, actually she had a massive go at him :o

There was also the famous story of a bloke who drove to Germany to mate his bitch with the Sieger that year (best showline GSD on the planet, basically) and the DOG turned his nose up and trotted away, guy says to owner, are you not going to catch him so we can do this mating, owner says 'Jecky say no today'.
Jecky said no three days in a row and the guy went and got another stud :o
