anyone else have problems with their Aerborn humane girth slipping back????

Evening all,

I purchased the aerborn humane (elastic at both ends) girth about a week ago as my mare puffs out when i do up her girth and it takes me ages to do it up! she gets quite anxious when i do up her girth so i do it really gently hole by hole so i thought and elastic one would help. I also find the girth really narrow and always feels gapey? my mare is round barrelled and i wonder if this girth is just the wrong shape for her? her old one was nylon and quite stiff.
 
I have a number of humane girths, mine have no elastic but do have the free ends that you can tighten up hole by hole. I have never had a problem with these slipping, I like the fact that there is a little movement in them and that you can do them up progressively - in fact the only danger with them, I think, is that they are relatively easy to over tighten.

Maybe try using different straps on the saddle to fix to?

I have always found the same! Never had any problems with any of the Aerborn humane girths
 
well the girth was advertise as 'elasticated' but it doesnt really feel it. its very soft and has the funny ends at both sides with the 'D' rings?! I just dont think it has enough 'grip' on my mares round belly!
 
You might not want to hear this but imo those girths are far from humane. in fact they are awful! The pull ends up over a very narrow band down the middle of the girth. this means more pressure over a narrow area- very uncomfortable and asking for issues imo. As they age they get narrower too as the material either side of the Ds curls. They arent elasticated but with a round barrelled horse you dont want elastic anyway as that wont help with stability.

The wider the girth you can get the better- to spread the pressure. girth on wide straps (first and last) with a non elasticated girth and as you do already girth up slowly. I would fully expect your current girth to make the puffing out worse.

Does your saddle fit? I ask because that could be a reason for her anxiety. or the old girth was uncomfotable.
 
I have had these girths in the past thinking I was being kind, but I don't like them at all, and especially having a fatty pony at the mo it's been even worse!
And reading the above post it makes alot of sense and I'm very glad I have stopped using mine now!

i have now stopped using said girth, its really no good at all- i too thought it would be more 'humane'! i have gone back to my old one for justnow- my saddle was bought brand new about 4 months ago and since then my mare has put on weight so it will be interesting to see what the saddler says when she comes back out to check it.
