I used to go off jumping things out hacking when I was a kid but seem to have grown out of it until yesterday.. They have just trimmed the hedges on one of the bridle paths I go on and one of them looked really nice and I just couldn’t seem to help myself from jumping it even though it’s probably not the best idea to be jumping big hedges on your own when no one knows where you are!

So does anyone else do things like this?

i hack to a wood with a park in the middle. the ground was soft but not slippy and there was nobody there. so me and the mare jumps a bench. just had the urge to go turned and did. it was about 60cm and we jump bigger so no problem. it was muchly fun

there's a lovely bench near me too ;) not done it yet but watched friend do it and rides really nicely - alas i had dressage saddle on HRH that day - this thread has reminded me - will go back and do it myself soon :D
i just any logs/dtiches etc i can find :)

Yeeeah!

Logs, used to make brush fences, post and rail fencing, ditches, used to jump the run off ditches from the resivoir and the benches round the park too! :D

ive been trying for ages for a nice ditch to jump lol. i always jump in my dressage saddle as we only jump upto 80cm

Im terrible at this. There is a village green we hack past and the bench is always good fun if im on the right horse. There is some woods we hack through and people are always putting up fences, basically if you dont jump no point going through now, the jumps are tiny tho a shetland can pop them. There is also a old bomb hole we go down and gallop up which is fun/scary if your an adrenaline junkie. :D

There is a house we pass on the way to the woods, it has a little box hedge a couple of feet high at the front that is at 90 degrees to the path. Having ridden past it hundreds of times, I recently looked at it and thought yup! So we did :D

i keep looking at the one next to my washinng line garden but mum would kill me and id probably decapitate myself

We pop all sorts. Small banks, bushes on the grass verges, wooden benches, ditches - things like that.
Drawn the line at round bales but used to like popping small bales back in the day when they weren't like hen's teeth. :)

Yup do it the whole time after investigating the ground round about to ensure its safe. Nothing better to teach your horse to cope in all terrains and not all XC courses are on perfect manicured ground!!
Best XC practice I did this season was when nice Mr Farmer did the big square bales of straw in the stubble fields. Perfect for jumping and not having any related distances and to teach you to lengthen and shorten stride as appropriate, jump on angles etc. Lots of fun too!!:D:D:D
