I work mine everyday mainly because he'd quickly bloat into a fatty otherwise. And also for my own pleasure too. If I don't ride for one day I feel agitated and unhappy with myself for not riding. (OMG that makes me sound like an addict 
)
My horse would still be fine to get straight on if he'd had several days off, but with every day that passed without him being worked, he would become increasingly bolshie, and harder to handle on the ground, which I think is typical of the breed - He's a Gelderlander and is ultra intelligent, far too inquisitive and has absolutely no patience at all. He's calmest and happiest when he's either stuffing his face, or is tired after exercise.
