So sorry, but you gave her the best chance, got the vets in early to treat her medically, and then did the right thing by not putting her through extensive and invasive unpleasant further procedures with a very uncertain outcome.
Sorry for your loss, I lost 3 to it and mare in June had it. You did what is right for your wee girl and that is what matters. sweet dreams little one.
In the end, the vets discovered she had a blockage somewhere. Her stomach was full of fluid that couldn't drain away. She was a very sick little pony, but so stoic bless her. She must have in so much pain, but the only reason I knew something was wrong was because she was lying down more than usual.
I'm absolutely devastated and really not sure if I can go through this again. Seeing them pass away is horrifically traumatic.
The most difficult thing is that i had to start looking for a replacement the next day as Bo isn't a pony who can be alone for long. He's refused to go out in the field since we lost Cookie. He just wants to stay in his stable where he feels safe. He's really quite upset. I did let him see Cookie after she'd passed and I'm sure he understands that she died. He's not called for her once.
We have a loan companion pony coming tomorrow so hopefully he'll start to settle down a bit.
