My little mini shetland is colicky. Spasmodic, bit gassy, but still wanting to eat in between randomly lying down. Quite perky in herself and chattering away to me.

Vet's been and she's had some pain relief.

Vet says they've seen a few cases of colic this week so I'm probably not the only one in for a sleepless night tonight.

Please keep everything crossed that she gets over it very quickly. 🤞🙏

Fingers crossed she’s ok. All the wet after the drought makes grass growth go mental.

ETA Hopefully this is just a blip. Once she’s fully settled and recovered maybe consider a course of psyllium husks - a lot of horses will have been ingesting more sand than usual when grazing on bare dry paddocks this summer.

Sand did cross my mind. I'll order the psyllium husks just in case.

Unfortunately, she's gone downhill again today.

Has been tubed and had abdo scan to rule a couple of things out.

Stomach is enlarged and hasn't emptied so she's being starved overnight to see if things shift.

Poor baby is feeling very sorry for herself and has had quite the haircut for her scan. Little rug arriving tomorrow.

She didn't make it.

Vets were here for 2 days trying to save her. Unfortunately, her stomach was full of fluid that wasn't draining away, which was pointing to a blockage somewhere. Surgery wasn't really an option for her, she was terrified of vets and it would have been deeply traumatic for her. She'd already been through so much, so we decided it was kinder to let her go at home.

We are all absolutely devastated. 💔
