This is my 5th day / night on foal watch and my mare is at 349 today

The last 3 days she's not wanted be out in the field (most unusal) and is now only happy to be out for an hour max, would much rather be in on her own. Since I posted on Wednesday that she had hardly any bag she's sprung up and this morning before she went out the ligament inbetween them had all but gone and they were hard and tight. Today I was inspecting them and just touched one and fluid squirted out of it with hardly any pressure at all, it's not milk though, yellow clear fluid, not sticky though thicker than water.

She's been restless between 1.30am-3.30am the last few nights (previously she has always foaled between 2-3am), lots of tail swishing and weight shuffling, kicking etc then just goes back to her hay!

This morning she's been pooing lots of small soft piles and seems to be peeing a lot more too so I'm soooooo hoping it will be soon! 5 nights sleeping in my (small) car are taking it's toll (and I wish I drove something larger than a Saxo, lol!).

Surely it can't go on much longer!

It will cheer me up to know I'm not the only one who feels the like world stops turning everytime you see your mare take a step in her box!

Oh and I have just heard it's thundery heavy rain tonight, so what is the betting it does happen tonight?!!

We are tonight and have been since Friday night. She’s only on day 341 but has been at 200ppm on the calcium count since Friday and has been miserable. Has totally slackened off and isn’t really interested in anything other than her hard feed and her droppings are very very runny now. Her bag and nipples are huge and couldn’t possibly get any bigger and her milk is very very milky and sticky…no wax yet but I doubt she’s gonna wax up. She’s gone out in field today but when checked she is still looking sorry for herself so fingers crossed she finally decides to go tonight!

We’ve literally been on tenterhooks tho so you are definitely not the only one!! We’re definitely thinking she’s been waiting on the storm!

we are on day 323 (at the max) and i am getting nervous! I'm not quite on foal watch overnight yet but i am sure shes getting rather annoyed with me (and everyone on the yard) looking at her!
Fingers crossed she isnt going to suddenly bag up or god knows what i will do! (foal watch with two babies - wont be good! hubby is working up in scotland at the moment - so knowing my luck....!)

oh my god you have twin babies and a foal due! you are brave. My mare is at stud the now and i am wondering how i will manage next spring for foal watch as my son will be 6 and my partner works away over night and i work days but i know i will manage somehow!

I am on foal wach at the moment. My friend came round last night and said when the lillies in my vase opened she would foal that day. Well they opened today, lets see if she's right

Yes. Right now. 9.40am, have a very restless mare pacing the paddock, rolling, ignoring her hay and being generally un-Lola like.
The Vet was here (again

) for the other mare at 7am glanced over Lolas' stall door and said that he reckoned he'd be seeing me again before the weekend then, but please not this afternoon as he has mares to AI two hours away first.

There is one part of the paddock I can't see from my windows and of course Lola is hiding there, I can't get anything done

Thankyou

Swings and roundabouts isn't it? That's horses for you.
I've been breeding on and off for 16 years now and this is the first bad luck I have had, so I guess I haven't had a bad run.

Happy, and safe, foal watching everyone

OK.....so I am NOT on foal watch.

Lola obligingly produced a bay filly at 10.30am. Few minor problems, now sorted.

Vet says "See you soon!" God I hope not! (In the nicest possible way of course) .....I reckon I have paid for his First Class flights for his vacation to the UK in the Fall in the last 2 weeks.
