Hi all,

Thought it woud be interesting and funny to find out if any of you have a fussy horse?

Mine is a complete prima donna and has the pain threshold of a gnat! He's the biggest horse I have ever ridden and the biggest wuss too lol!

We cannot fit a saddle without a numnah - chaos ensues and the saddle has to be checked very regularly as any change is a massive no no.

When i bought a new saddle, he only liked the most expensive one ever and was an absolute a**e to ride in the cheaper ones even though they fit ok!!!

He won't accept ay old numnah, oh no!!! He has to have at least half sheepskin lined even in the summer when it must be hot.

Won't eat mints only likes meadow treats.

Anyway he has cost me a small fortune in the last year and a half since i bought him lol! However, he is an absolute cuddle monkey and when he has his luxuries is an absolute dream so I wouldn't swap him for the world.

So anyone else got any funny stories about their fussy horse or pony?

:-)

Mine really prefers it if you hold her feed bucket for her rather than put it on the floor, and will tell you if you aren't holding it at exactly the right height. She likes you to tip it so that she can get at all the last little bits too.

Can you tell my OH is totally besotted with her???

Such a princess!

Our Sec D likes everything 'just so'. And she's not afraid to let us know:)

It's actually mostly good horse management - making sure that she is clean and rugs, numnahs and saddles put on carefully and smoothed down. She shows us exactly where she wants her haypile placed and pulls brushes out of the grooming box.
One thing she loathes is neoprene - brushing boots get pulled off with her teeth and the one time she wore a neoprene girth she showed her displeasure by kicking up at it until we got the message (usually stands quietly for tack and clothing so tis easy to guess when something's wrong)

Luckily she doesn't have expensive tastes except in bits.

This thread made me chuckle! What we do for our horses eh! I like to keep my two in a good routine, and they enjoy it... but nothing like what some of you have to cope with! Although admittedly, I am the OCD owner - not the owner of an OCD horse! :D

A friend in the stable next to me has a Prima Donna Princess... and he's a gelding... a very feminine one at that mind! He is another one that prefers his feed bucket held. There are times you can out it on the floor, and he will have it... IF, you have put it in the right place. Other times he will wait til my friend gets back, and will only eat when she is holding it. He has to have the same bucket too... use a different bucket and he simply will not eat it.

His mannerisms are all very similar in every part of his life, everything in his stable and care has to be 'just so'. As a whole, he just cannot cope with 'change'. I can guarantee it is not the owner coddling him either - her other two horses (which are mares) are totally the other end of the scale! xx

I have a (Fat) hackney x who:

Is convinced any water will make her melt, including rain

Is convinced her feed bucket is hiding a dragon (she has a good snort and look around it first)

Is convinced that she may die being left out after dark, even though she spent her first year with me on full turnout :)

Who really feels the cold

YESSSS myn is built like a body builder but thinks hes lord of the manner doesnt share his trailer or say wont hes 15,1hh and hated his 505 ifor so has 510 ifor hates being left out over night in the summer likes to come into a comfy bed every night hates too much rain even thow he wears combos . pulls faces if im in other horses stables n bangs the door has his own sweet jar and his saddle was a made to measure constantly watches were i am on the yard and even starts calling on me if im too long filling haynets but does get told off when i ignore him when he paws out at me probably prima donna he isnt just pure spoilt rotten and if hes told off pulls faces at me

She also hates getting her feet wet and on a muddy track will kind of tip toe along walking only on the narrow dry strip that is about 6" wide - I must stop this but it makes me laugh so much I am rendered incapable.

She isn't particular about her stable though, she is an absolute pig in the stable, it resembles a monkey cage most of the time. She does a good line in offended faces if you point this out to her though!

Last thing at night ... when feeding haynet I always give my boy an apple - for a greedy horse he is particularly fussy as to which brand it is .... at the moment Gala sweet apples are OK but turns his nose up a Pink Lady ones!

These are so funny!! Blue does a few bratty things, such as i know the grass is low at the moment, so this is one reason he is getting out alot, but also I have noticed that whenever I have had a rushed few days, and just quickly sorted him out, no grooming or anything he seems to get himself on a righ role and escape several times a day and break alot of fencing! Then once everything settles down and i get back to normal routine, he stops and stays in his field. It's as though he is cross because i have had no time for him for a few days lol :) xxxx

Haha - love this thread!

Ellie is a massive prima donna. She refuses to be turned out in the winter - through the summer, she's happy to be out 24/7, even when it's raining, but once we hit October, she just says, 'Had enough!' and refuses to be out. I've been lucky this year in that she waited until the last week of October before making her choice....! If turned out (even with company) she just careers round and round, screaming her head off, until she either falls over (has been witnessed), crashes through the fence or cuts herself to pieces. She gets so stressed, it just isn't worth it! The lovely thing is that she is so good considering she's in 24/7 - she doesn't really get silly or over fresh. It's almost like she says, I've made my choice, so I promise I'll be good if you let me stay in!

I think she has a general aversion to mud. I hacked out the other day, and we had to go up a long, muddy, slippy track. She was adamant that we should go the field way, because she didn't want to get dirty! When I insisted on using the track (sheep and horses in field), she was NOT amused. And the water jump...well, that is met with disdain everytime we have to go through it! Pansy horse :p

I am so glad it isn't just me lol!

So funny to read about these others.

Yes mine has water aversion, puddles are actually huge sink holes that will swallow all of his 17'2 chunky self. But, oooh muddy puddle in the field, now that's fine lol!

I also get ignored if I say hello to other horses when he can see me. Gets very narky.

Now has also started to demand coming in around half day after being turned out, normally would happily stay out all day getting muddy, although I think it has something to do with a certain skewbald lady who is in the stable opposite him that comes in after 2 hours turnout (another fussy one as that is her choice lol).

keep them coming. :-)
