As the title really.

Thumper is back in a rug - in July, which is quite ridiculous.

Anyone else rugging their poor nags??

Nope, they are all out 24/7 and naked - Mine might get clipped in a couple of weeks before the next comp - although will be rugging for the first couple of weeks after that

Mind are too. Wearing light weight combo rugs. Our stables and paddocks are exposed and over looking the sea at the top of cliffs. If the weather is bad anywhere else, it is 100 times worse up there. Got my yearling in on Saturday afternoon (about 4pm) and her coat was staring with the chill. Yikes. In JULY!

Mine are in lightweight turnoutds and we lit a fire last night at home!!! it certainly wasn't cold enough for the HEATING (what are we talking about in July!!) but needed something to take the chill off after I got in from the horses soaking wet.....

Have put a LW turnout on my old mare, as she tends to come in really shivering in heavy rein. Daughter's pony doesn't really need one, but has one on to keep her clean. My mare is still out naked though!

Both mine are out at night naked still, my theory is the rain is warm and they have enough months with thick heavy rug's it's nice for them to have a break, ok if there old etc i can see the point otherwise i just like them to be horses for a few months...

Sharing your pain with what to do for the best here. Desperate to avoid 'mollycoddling' but sitting at work looking out at the driving rain and now wishing I had put a LW rug on my boy this morning instead of turning out starkers! Just hope that sun breaks through soon!

Out naked - it's still 15/16 degrees even in the rain which is pretty warm IMO, and I don't wait for him to dry to ride him either as I have never, ever understood why rain is worse than sweat and his back is always wet from sweat after riding. I just sweat scraper him before I tack up.

Nope, once his rug is off for the summer it is off. He spends too much time of the winter in a rug and Jake doesn't like them. It is also helping him to loose weight which is a bonus!

mine is in today as his field is like a bog, and now resembles his winter field afer he ran round like a lunatic, the weather on dartmoor is as bad as it was in the winter (just not quiet as cold!!)
i know he's a horse and all that, but what can you do? he will not stay out and be sensible in bad weather
