Regandal I tend to shop at sainsburys but do somewhere like aldi for my fruit and veg if I can be bothered. Its quite hard but here are some f the things that I did but this money had to include all cleaning products, toiletries for all of us.
1) write a menu Of about ten cheap meals which get rotated. So we have lasagne, jacket potatoes, sausage pasta, fish nd chips, carbonara made with eggs not a sauce, roast and following day we will have a bubble and squeak etc
2) go through the menu and work out exactly what you need for every meal down to silly things like how many lasagne sheets I'd need to make a lasagne which calculates to how many boxes.
3) shop every two weeks so you don't have the temptation of over spending every single weekly shop.
4) buy UHt milk nd lots of it so you don't have to visit the shop at all!
5) buy bread and freeze it. I also buy sainsburys cheap rolls which are thirty five pence for twelve rolls so for us they last longer than a loaf of bread at one pound twenty. Cheap bread for toast.
6) I buy mostly sainsburys basic range with the odd exceptions. I have even swapped to their own washing powder which works well just hope it doesn't wreck my washing machine in the long run.
7) have a budget of sixty pound for each two weekly shop and then there is thirty pound over the month for extras if needed.
8) for packed lunches I buy things like big packs of raisins and divide rather than the little packets that cost a bomb. I buy cheap cake and shove it in cling film.
9) we all use the same shampoo and shower gel. I buy bleach for every part of my cleaning but make an exception for the kitchen where I have a spray but only a cheap one.
10) I try not to shop when I'm hungry so I don't pick up loads of rubbish and nine times out of ten I stick to the list in my hand.
Just a few ideas for you! It's not easy and sometimes it's bloody boring but when it gets too much we might have a blow out which then spurs us on again. Hope this helps a bit.
