Anyone else still got their first pony ?

I got Blue when i was 7 and he is truly AMAZING :)

Through our teenage years my friends all got rid of their ponies and moved on to horses. I was pretty lucky as Blue is 14hh, so only started to get too big around 17 ish.

Still have not managed to sell him at 23 :D, i couldn't afford two but could never sell him or even loan him out as will be too jealous (just have some young girls who have fun with him) it really doesn't bother me though!

What about everyone else?

We got our family pony when I was 13 (I am now 30) and we still have him. He's a Shetland pony called Bracken (in my avatar), he's now 22 years old and now my kids ride him.
 
Yep :) I got my pony Charlie when i was 8 and still haven't sold him!

He is 23 now and a 12.1hh welsh,
I could never sell him ever! He is extremely cheeky and very grumpy :D
 
Had shares & ponies I rode/ looked after for others before, but first owned pony I got at 10 when she was 2. We are now 31 & 23! She is 14.2 & although I'm tall I'm thin so still ride her. Did a fair bit of senior stuff on her too, but despite outgrowing her ability (& leg wise!) When I was forced to choose between her & my ideal comp horse, I kept her & sold him without a second thought. Love her to bits & wouldn't swop her for anything.

My daughter got Sam, our grey boy when she was 15 and he was 6. She is now 23 and he is 14. He will never leave us and I reckon he has at least another 10 years in him yet!
 
Yes! I have mine. he is 13.2 skewbald and I got him when I was 11 (initially a share then loan then bought him!) and I'm now 26. My mum rides him now, but I fancied a ride today and popped him over a couple of 90cm jumps. I was pleased he hasn't forgotten as much as thought he would for not having jumped for a year! :D
 
Yep!! I got him on loan at 13, bought him 9 months later, and more than 16 years later I still have him. He has done everything from all the normal stuff, through to side saddle, pony raciing and re enactment things with other people. He's been out on loan several times, and loves teaching kids. I must admit, I often think of trying to find the people I bought him off, just to let them know he is still going strong!!

I have mine too! Got given my little Welshie when I was 10 (and he was supposedly 12), I'm now 20 and he's apparently in his 30's! Still doing very well, still very evil, and is now my little brother & sisters steed but I take him for runs to keep him busy ;)
 
I've still got mine! 13.1h Heinz 57! Got him 20 years ago when he was 13. He is a little legend, rode him until I was 17, opted to miss out on the 14.2 stage and went straight to horses. He's taught me so much and taught a couple of other kids locally once I'd outgrown him. He is still going out pc'ing and loves life! Tried retiring him a couple years ago and he spent the months escaping and causing havoc!
 
Yep! Still got mine, he was 5 when I got him and 16 amazing years later he is retired and a faithfull companion to my horse. He is also a fantastic lawn mower(He gets let in the garden, thoroughly spoilt!)
 
Some really touching stories on here, about to buy my first, he's six and I'm sixteen. Hope we'll last as long as the partnerships on here :D
 
Sadly not. I got my first pony when I was 12 and she was 5. She died still owned by me when I was 32 and she was 26. I still have her daughter who is now 22.
 
Yes, he will be 20 this year was bought for me and my sister when I was 9 and she was 11 he's 13.2hh and has always been an evil so and so, love him to bits and would never part with him.
 
Nope, the first pony i rode would be about 63 now.

I do sitll have my daughter's first pony though, and her second pony:)
 
I got my first pony when I was 13, she is 14hh and I still have her, wouldn't part with her for the world. I've had others along the way, but when I married and only had room for one I had no hesitation as to which i'd keep.

She was a really green 6yo when I got her -novice horse, novice rider...but she has taught me so much, and is still trainable at the age of 22. I've not done loads in public on her, so she is pretty low mileage, but we got two thirds at the rc show last month so am really proud of her - she has always been there as a massive part of my life.
 
I still have my first horse I was 13 when I got her....I am now 32 and she is 30! Not bad for a TBx who I was told to sell when she reached the age of 16 as she was too old and was going to hold me back ;) She didnt fully retired until 4 years ago and still whinny's every morning when she sees my car pull into the yard :D
 
I still have my first pony :) We got him when I was 8. He is 11'2 shetland X so grew out of him very quickly then broke him to drive, retired him from driving at 21 but he is still ridden by a part loan. Would never be able to part with him!
 
I had my pony until March - she was 8 when I got her and 27 when she got put to sleep - v. lucky to have her for that long!
 
My parents finally gave in and bought me a pony when I was 11 - an 8 yr old Arab mare. I still own her and, luckily, she's 14.2hh and I'm as thin as a pin so I can still ride her. I'm 22 and she's 19 :)
 
Still got my first two. First one, a shetland is totally retired and lived in a bare paddock as he can still put weight on and has been prone to laminitus. Second one- the Venerable Betsy is still going aged 35-40. I got her when I was 10, she was supposed to be a 13.2hh chestnut gelding. Turned out to be a 13hh roan mare. We're not sure of her age, the vet thought she was approx 16 in 1990. I rode her for a couple of years until I grew too much, then my sister had her. Unfortunately she developed acute liver disease (not sure why), it took 2 years of nursing, vets and everyone else to get her back. Turned out to be an exellent games pony for sister 2.

Now she's semi retired with the Shetland. She still goes out for a mooch up the road and back with my 2 year old niece. Not sure how much longer we'll have her as last tooth check showed that she had 3 molars left. Keeping weight on can be an issue, although she's happy as larry and as active as anything in the field. Think we'll just have to see. We've had her for 26 years so god knows what will happen when she does go. Will be a very sad day.

Yep, I've still got my very first pony and the companion shetland who came with him. Got them when I was 9, he was 5yrs old and the shetland was 3. They're now 25 and 23! He retired officially some years ago due to hoof problems however he's been sound for ages now so I do pop on him nown and again (even though I am huge on him). I had a c-section 3 weeks ago and was so desperate to ride I got on him yesterday to check I could still ride and hadn't forgotten! He was pretty firey considering how old and unfit he is!
 
It's funny really, whenever I see an adult who regularly rides an older pony that height wise & ability wise they have outgrown, I always wondered if like me it was a first pony they won't part with. Seems I was right!
 
My current 2 are probably both smaller than my first pony, one def is, the other might be a fraction bigger. Mr T has a special place though, and I'd never sell him. Think there are a few of us about!!
