My good doers are still being muzzled and strip grazed. I have a 13acre field and although wet and stormy the grass is green and long, turning a little yellow in places but too scared to let them go free on it, however I so want a rest and let them run free unrestricted till spring, anyone elses grazing still lush and restricting grazing?

Yes I am still strip grazing - I only have a smallish paddock with just my horse on and he is only on just over half of it. Its knee high and whilst I want to give him so am just so scared, he thinks he is starving!!

We took our fence down last night. Always a bit nervy about doing it as one year I judged it wrong and my old horse Daisy colicked. So far so good though...

Yep my fat beast is out in a muzzle by day, in at night with soaked hay and diet food, and still looks like a heffalump! It'll be december by the time I can take his mask off at this rate!

Wanna swap? We're waiting for the school building to finish and are playing the "how long can they possibly live on this hill of mud for"

To be honest I do not stop restricting grass all year sadly. He has the same area to nibble at from April through to Oct and then I start strip grazing him each day through the winter so he has enough to eat and nibble on in the day and then he is in at night all year to get him off the grass and onto rationed hay. I do not think you can let your guard down at any time of year with good doers and especially those that have had laminitis.

We have so much grass at the moment, can't ever remember there being so quite so much for this time of year before. Having to be very careful as all ours are good doers so are only opening up a little bit of grass each night.

My top paddock is being used as this years sacrifice- it's now bare of grass and is mostly mud. So my mare can potter around nibbling at what she can find without having a muzzle on and still having 24/7 turnout. I put a muzzle on for a few hours a day when I take her down to the other paddock to have some grass. She's unrugged, has no hard feed and is slowly but surely losing the summer's fat thankfully.

Yeah, my old man is grossly fat, no matter how much work he is in or how little grazing he gets he stays overweight. I guess I ought to be pleased as according to the dentist he's about 25, and still being ridden 5 or 6 times a week, but it does make life hard!

Opie is on a small strip, muzzled and in at night with soaked hay, but still as big as a house :o

Yep my pair of fatties are still strip grazing. We only recently moved to this field in september and theres been nothing on it for a year so the grass is lush. Not complaining though, I'm sure they'll soon eat it all!
