The weather over the last few weeks has been dreadful wind lashing rain more wind more rain !!!only the odd few days of dry or sun certainly no more than 2 or 3 days together .We cut hay early end of May beautiful hay but yield down 31 big bales instead of usual 50.
Been long enough for a second cut for about 4 /5 weeks but o sign of a settled spell of weather.Still have 25 big bales from last year so not desperate for the hay but the field is so long it does need cutting!
wI'll use about 3 area as foggage but that leaves another 3 that I really want to get made into hay!!!
British summer aghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

We completely missed the chance to cut one of our small paddocks in July and then it got knocked down in all the rain. We’re still planning on a second cut of silage off one of the other fields so that’s not too bad. We made plently of round bales early on so enough stock but just annoying that we missed the paddock at the time. Any good weather now will be spent combining. Just can’t win with the weather!

The weather this year has been a nightmare. Our hay was cut on July 19, I cursed at the time as the next day we had unforecast heavy rain all day. Managed to get it in dry and cured (just), but since then there has been no settled weather window, so if we had delayed we’d still not have been able to cut it. We only do one cut, our yield was 25% down on normal.

Not looking promising for the next few weeks, is it.
