I think I have memory problems because I can't really remember how bad it was. I remember the rain and if we flood as badly this year I'll have to move next summer.

Other than the wet I don't much mind. There are positives to winter, I hate the heat and flies. I like seeing my horses more, they need me in winter.

OP you sound very well prepared, is it the weather that's your issue, or do you feel you haven't achieved enough this year? Maybe SAD?

We've been very lucky in East Anglia its been a perfect summer not too hot other than odd days & enough rain to keep grass growing but Im very much questioning the cost of owning horses nowadays - its so expensive to keep them when in work - just without anything going wrong the cost of physios & saddlers, lessons, farriers/trimmers, worming, teeth, vacs, I feel its become a rich persons hobby tbh. We are lucky enough to keep them at home with minimal fuss or cost but even so physios trimmers saddlers are now charging as much as vets!
On the plus side we too are off to Burghley - cannot wait - the forecast looks perfect - hopefully you just need time away to recharge your batteries.

I have decided to try to be positive this winter and ignore the weather. I am not sure how well this plan will stand up to first contact with the enemy, i.e. the first time I have to get up in the dark when it’s tipping down! I need to convert my outdoor school to an indoor and have a huge retractable roof like a sports stadium over the whole yard. 😄

Rant away setterlover I totally get where you re coming from! The upside to having no reliable summer was few clegs and less money spent on fly spray and my black mare works better in cooler weather but the thought of another six months of rain and high winds and cold with the mud is a bit no a lot depressing! The media is talking about a heatwave coming but I don’t see that on my weather app. I’m waiting for the schools in England to resume cos the weather usually cheers up a little then lol.

Yes the weather does look set fair for Burghley so really looking forward to it meeting up with a really good friend who lives near there our once a year girly catch up.Going on to Norfolk to catch up with some more friends ( last year's meet up had to be cancelled as they had COVID)
I think part of the problem is we have now decided to downsize sell up and relocate to Shropshire/Herefordshire ( where I grew up) so I feel a bit in limbo as after a long discussion and meeting with our chosen estate agent we have been advised to market early spring as that's the best time to sell plus I really couldn't face moving in the winter ( we did it once many years ago and we swore never again.)
Currently tidying up and clearing out stuff ready for the spring so going through lots of stuff and triggering lots of memories some sad bringing back the loss of dear friends and family who have passed away some happy.
Enjoy Burghley bubsqueaks say hello if you see a couple with 2 Red Setters .

It's been so cold this 'summer' as soon as the sun goes down the temperature plummets and you're rushing to grab a hoody. The weather forecast people are struggling.... predict no rain and it rains.... makes me want to just give up and move abroad

I live in Beds and I didn't think the summer had been too bad. We've been away in the UK alot and apart from the odd day of rain we've been very lucky. We even spent 9 days in West Wales in June with only a few hours of rain. I don't mind autumn but I'm not a fan of Christmas and I really struggle with January and February.
