Anyone else suffering the wet in the same way as us??

You could try upping his zinc and copper a bit. Farriers formula only has 89mg copper and 250mg zinc per serving which sounds a little low.
I give mine 175mg copper and 525mg of zinc daily and his feet are amazing (he's barefoot), might be worth a try :)

He's on the double concentrate FF so more like 188mg copper and 500mg zinc I guess?

Mine has an abscess, first time in 15 years any of my horses have had one :(

Glad that's all it was though. There was blood on his fetlock which misled me for a few days...

And when the road out of the village floods, I have an hour round trip either to the yard, or to my son's school, or to work... it's a nightmare.

On the plus side I just bought a new waterproof coat which is super warm. That's about the only nice thing that has happened because of the weather... clutching at straws...

I was trying to console myself last night with the thought that when we do get to summer, the ground will be good for longer because of the soaking it is having. And I saw some tulips in Waitrose yesterday, which is my own personal definition of spring having arrived. Does that help??

Not suffering quite as badly as some of you guys, but we have only just returned from being flooded out. The fields are now pretty firm apart from in the gateways, but as there is more rain forecast and they're feet are now pretty wet again I will be bringing them in for a couple of hours during the day at the weekend to give them a chance to dry a little. Normally they stay out 24/7 because the really old boy has trouble getting up when he's in, so I'll be hanging around to keep an eye out. Also going to start some walking out in hand (all three are retired) as they're tending to stand about a bit and that's not good for an oldies digestion.

All going to be v. hard work fitting it in with full time work, but hey they give me such a lot that it's a small price to pay in return.

Just can't wait for this bl**dy rain to stop though.

Although we have a temp home to go to if the fields do flood again, I really hope that we don't have to move again - it's a killer when your ponies are one place, your car has become the rug room and your feed is somewhere completely different, and having to keep an eye on where you've moved out out.

Oddly not, double concentrate supplies only 92mg Cu per 1/2 cup (85g) serving, and 250mg Zn. Its all on the lifedata website, quite an interesting read, comparing the 2 types.

UK grazing and forage on the whole is low in Zn and Cu and high in iron. Iron competes with the other minerals for absorption sites when ingested, so this can make the Cu/Zn deficiency worse.

I feed mine increased levels of Cu and Zn, (its really cheap from Pro Earth on Ebay) as well as linseed, Mg in the spring/summer, and salt all year round, and his feet are brilliant, copes with any terrain barefoot, and he looks fab too! Hope that helps :)

I feel robbed lol

Well mine are having to stay out (they've been coming in at night over the winter), because one of my brand new stables has flooded :( Gutted, dont think my hardcore base is thick enough at that end of the stable block so more money to spend to fix the problem, damn it! Luckily they've been choosing to stand about on the hardcore area outside the stables eating hay so they're not standing in deep mud and puddles all day.

Well our boy went out today, scared be when he ran off and all I could hear was over reaching! (He always looses shoes, and he really cant with his feet the way they are!). Came in tonight and he was miserable as hell lol, last couple of days when hes been in hes been lovely!!

Trying to get him out at least one every two days!

We have four and they are always out 24/7 all year round, regardless of the weather (unless injured or ill of course). In over 30 years of keeping horses in the same field we have never had any problems due to the wet, but my mum's gelding's legs are starting to look a bit pink unfortunately. He is an Appaloosa and his skin is rather sensitive anyway. It is very mild so far so am just going to wait it out and see... part of the field looks like a complete bog, 2/3 of it is still fairly reasonable and they have free access to stables. If things get worse I will either have to lock him in (which he will HATE) or fence off the boggy part, which would stop them accessing the stables as shelter.

All four have no problems with their feet and it's only that gelding whose skin looks slightly upset, the rest are not bothered in the slightest (which I'm relieved about)! My KWPN x ISH mare is quite happy being muddy and disgusting and has taken to drinking out of puddles instead of the trough.
