Hi all,
I have recently registered to take part in this project after a friend sent me a link for it. Its a collaboration between World Horse Welfare, the Animal Health Trust and the Royal Veterinary College. The project aims to get as many horse owners as possible to regularly record their horses weight and condition as well as answer a few questions about their horses lifestyle. The data collected then gets used for research into causes of Laminitis. Registration is easy and once registered you are sent a pack with a tape measure, pen and chart as well as instructions on how to properly condition score. You are then asked to submit measurements on a monthly basis and record any relevant changes to your horses lifestyle, health, condition etc.
It seems a good idea to me as we are all a lot more wise to the importance of condition scoring these days and submitting the data we are all taking and putting into this research can only help to find out ways to prevent laminitis.
Also doesn't hurt to keep records on your own equine to see what subtle changes are occurring!
If you want more info the website is http://careaboutlaminitis.org.uk/
If you are interested check it out and spread the word!
Thanks for reading
