my grass is soo long and more than ready to bale but there seems to be no end in sight to the rain - 4 clear days seem unlikely and I am desperate to get mine off their winter grazing into the hay field once its cut ! just a moan really - anyone else in the same boat (will be literally a boat needed here soon haha)

Me too.. Thought it was supposed to be summer.. It's rained most of the last 3 months..

Cut this week (the haylage fields) and baled some yesterday - until the contractors baler blew up so only got 80 big bales done - 2 acres still on the ground getting very wet...

Does anyone know how haylege is made please? Is is just left for less time than hay but more than silage or is there more to it than that??

Its my belief that silage is usually cut and baled same day or within 24 hours as high moisture content, haylage is less moisture so left for additional day (cut one day, turned next and baled) whilst hay is left to totally dry before baling therefore needing generally 4 days of good weather.

I may be resorting to having haylage (which cant really afford due to the wrap) instead if we dont get a clear spell soon !!
