I have the most gangly 3 yr old possible.....not helped by having a growth spurt..he's on ad lib hay and 2 feeds a day but still looks gangly...he's on s/beet...alpha a...and baileys no 3 stud cubes.....upto date with worming.....thinking maybe just wait for spring grass

He's just a youngster, he will grow into himself when he is ready. No point in trying to push him.

I usually find that if you have a nice 2yo they will be an ugly duckling at 3yo. If you have a mix and match 2yo they come good for 3yo.

Rarely do youngsters look good through every stage of being a baby.

My boy is 3 in May and is actually starting to look like a 'real' horse! He's already about 16.1 and I think another growth spurt may be on its way, he starts to eat like a gannet just before a spurt! He lives off haylage, fresh air and a token feed of chaff. Which is a relief as his mum (warmblood type) was a nightmare to keep weight on.
Mine has looked quite well for the past 8 months or so. He looked awful and gangly coming out of his yearling year.

My nearly 4 year old looked awful a few months ago, but is now starting to look like he fits himself (if that makes sense) I think they have to go through the ugly duckling stage to become a beautiful swan x

Seriously if you want a horse for the future cut the hard feed out!

^^ This is what I have found with all of mine too!

Mine looked a right sight this time last year at rising 3, now at rising 4 they look like proper horses, although still have a bit of growing to do!

One of ours was a very gangly 2 & 3yo, in fact he's still quite a gangly rising 6yo although he is growing into himself now. Some just need time. Keep the faith and don't overfeed.

I wouldn't be concerned, he's a young growing horse and it's his job to look gangly at the moment. I'm another who would cut out the hard feed, decent forage and plenty of it.
