Hi,

I am up north so we have had severe weather warnings . It’s worse than I thought the wind is horrific. I have mine split between a livery yard and home. My home “team” are 2 retired and a Shetland pony. No so worried about them as they have access to the shelter with hard standing or field . They are also have good waterproofs and big coats so they will be fine . Put them extra bedding down and lot of lay. So they should be fine.

It’s the ones on the livery that I am worried about . They are all in but I saw a post about it being more dangerous in stables in this weather. One in particular hates the wind used to get very stressed and spin around in the stable and sweat up. This has reduced as he got older. But he’s still stressed a little but I put treats in his hay pile to find and a new lick up to distract him . But I didn’t get a lick today I forgot and also it’s the first bad storm that his brothers not with him for. They are usually stabled together and the other one doesn’t care which has been good for mr stress head . His brother gone to rehab after a slight injury . Now I am sat her like oh no what If he gets stressed as there is nobody in his brother stable . What if the other horse at the side stress too. Or what if the roof comes of the stable or something.

My niece just thinks I am stressing because I didn’t get him a lick. I have also had a new medication change so not sure if it’s making me a bit anxious. Do you think it will be fine

I'm sure they will be fine.
Chances are that the stable block is sturdy and if the rest of the horses dong freak out, yours will provably calm down soon.
Will your yard owner contact you if there's a problem ?

Is the yard good at checking on the horses? I’m sure they’d call you if there was a problem. I’m north of Inverness and it’s been wild all day.

Yer usually and they are literally 2 minutes away . It’s probably me just being extra anxious but I about got knocked over when I let the dogs out . Thanks

Mine are out as usual. I fed them at 2pm, and they seemed not to want rugs on, so I left them to it. Was told about 6pm by YO that they were standing huddled in a dip in the ground, keeping out of wind. I really hope they stay away from the trees and that nothing flies at them! But not much I can do before the wind calms down, so trying not to think about it too much...

My home lot are in the stables purely because i get the guilts and like the idea of them all being in and cosy - they would not give two hoots if out though and have a walk-in shelter anyway. But it makes me feel good.

My livery was out this morning then in before the time allocated for the storm. I havent had him long enough to know what his "storm" reaction is but im very sure its pretty much non-caring. My last boy would be quite sharp in wind and very spooky/looky and riding in wind was a take it at your own risk type of thing but new Bear seems to not care anytime ive been in it with him or riding in it.

We are up in the north isles (Scotland). I had to put mine out yesterday for the oldies to get moving. I felt awful. TB was not happy. We got sent home early though so got them in and they were happy. All our building’s are designed for the wind so I’m not worried and the Italian is getting used to the noise now ? She didn’t like it to start with. I’m sure your horses are fine.

My normally 'can I go out now...please please please!' in the mornings PRE is very serene and cuddly this morning and seems very pleased to be kept in. He'll go out later when the weathers calmed down a bit for a leg stretch. The others all seem perfectly happy to have their turn out routine delayed for a few hours, and the shetland loves it...he thinks he's back on the Shetland Isles! Riding is definitely off today tho.....

Mine were in last night but keen to get out this morning but at the moment it’s just windy here - no snow/rain forecast until lunchtime so I will be bringing them back in before then.

I always worry about mine when it’s wild but they were all happy to stay out. I brought my old pony in, then as no one else volunteered to come in to keep her company I had to trick the Shetland with a huge carrot, she was outraged when I caught her and brought her it, lots of squealing and head tossing! Everyone was fine this morning and back out in the wind!

Mine was in last night. Think she had a bad night, bed is usually tidy in the morning, very messed up this morning. The wind blows directly into the walkway by her stable, lots of leaves etc on the floor this morning. Happy to go out though

Post-storm breakfast! Horses apparently spent most of the night sheltering behind the solar panels in the dip in the ground, and seem absolutely fine. A bunch of the massive trees near the stables have come down, thankfully falling into the forest, and not onto my trailer or the stables! The yard will be a lot brighter and drier now!

@Peglo, indeed! The Ballerina Mare is actually 15hh, but in the winter, judges tend to call her a "pony" (and mistake her for a gelding, oddly: she has a very feminine name)! Her ears are soooo floofy! The two actual ponies are both total fuzzballs just now. I did debate rugging them all yesterday, but they seemed ok (although the weather then became worse than I had expected!), and with so much wind, I would also have worried if they'd had rugs on, about rugs ripping/flapping/getting caught in things.

@The Fuzzy Furry, we did say that since the trees chose to fall further into the forest, it would've been convenient for the trees beside the school to fall over too...but as it is, the yard should be much brighter and drier in the future, which should be nice!

Hope everyone else came through ok too!

Mine were stressed and up a height when I got there this morning, but very glad I left them in their stables as the fence-line to their winter field blew down almost completely. Large tree has also fallen down blocking access to the winter field and the outdoor arena. Very lucky not to have anything fall on the stables. I have never heard wind like it last night!
And now we have snow...

I was in the red zone on east coast Scotland - never experienced winds like that in all my years, and I grew up in Caithness (ALWAYS windy). I live in on the crest of a hill in a village near the yard, facing north across open fields. It was genuinely frightening - a lot of noise and movement on the roof - luckily it sounded worse than what it looked this morning apon inspection. Theres no power here so pretty cold, "feels like" -7 on met office site and 10 degrees in the living room; I've taken to a small back bedroom with my house pets.

All horses okay thankfully but obviously subdued, despite efforts to secure everything at the yard, there was a lot of debris from the village flying about out there which would have made noise, they are probably tired.

Ground conditions poor with blasted ice on roads so not attemptng to hack, very low sun as well. Apparently a lot of trees down on our usual routes too, and still mid 30s gusts.

Hope everyone and their animals are ok, and trees can be cleared away as soon as, for those affected.

I turned out in a blizzard this morning and they came back in 2 hours later and had a duvet day. No 2 pony has eaten his weight in hay and as the wind chill is down to -8 tonight I’ve put rugs on them as No 1 pony isn’t eating much hay and colics when cold. It is still howling outside and my chickens have been inside their house when I’ve been up to check on them. They had a mash of left over stuffing and sweet potato for tea to keep them snug tonight.
