Anyone else's barefoot horses feeling their feet at the moment?

Mine would be footie if they were not off grass during the day and on yeast and added copper (to counteract high manganese and iron in the water and grazing).

Rising promise....thanks for posting on here and Oberon..thanks for your input.
I have to say I have a Welsh C...same weight all winter...in work...came in day before yesterday morning (out 7pm to 7am) barely walking...but not 'in pain' if you know what I mean...just REALLY careful with the tootsies.
Mrs Vet came and he is on one bute to give a bit of pain relief..which has worked...and I poultuced his off fore...as that seemed to be the one giving the most jip. He is better for the poultice.
Well Mr Farrier is coming on Friday to take a butchers.....and let me know if it is the dreaded lami...as I have another with Cushings and they are 8 and 9 yrs respectively.
Had decided if it is lami...then they will both be PTS....tbh...the stress caused to me the owner has been horrendous with the cushings pony...and I don't think I can go through that again.
But having read Oberon's posts...you have given me some hope that all might be well again.
The C is on literally a handful of Top Spec Top Chop Light (mollasses free) and Equimins Pro Vits....and hay...period.
So please keep everything crossed for my boys on Friday.
Best wishes
Bryndu

After the wet and then the heat, it is jungle growing conditions at the moment. I can almost see the grass growing. My farrier came yesterday and had seen two cases of laminitis that day. Mine are on such a small patch to stop them getting fatter, but I don't think they are particularly short of feed, there seem to be the same number of droppings as usual. I give them a small amount of hay every day just so they can have something a bit extra to chew on.

Good luck Bryndu - let us know how you get on. I know how stressful and worrying it is having dealt with lammy on too many occasions. Good luck with yours.

Orangehorse - I know what you mean about the grass growing infront of you! It's a bit scary! I put a carrot (I know not exactly the same thing but...) in the feedroom yesterday morning from my fridge at home, when I got to the yard at about 8pm to do horses the carrot had a 4 inch green shoot growing out of the top - that had grown during the 12 hours I was away from the yard!

My 16hh horse is now on about 1/3 of my acre field. There doesn't look to be much there but he usually mugs me when I poo pick if he is hungry and he's happily grazed the last few mornings while I've been there and there are plenty of poos! I just find it SO hard to look at the field and feel confident about making a decision as to whether its enough/not enough/too much etc!

Are they?! haha! Please tell that to my 17.1hh who seems to cost me as much in summer as he does in winter! lol! Any savings I make in feed / bedding seem to be made up with vets bills, fuel bills, heartache or anything else he can come up with! lol!

Well no, not cheap at all I agree! Especially competing at BE- cheap is not a word I know! lol

Thanks everyone for your help and all your input. I have decided to put shoes back on Ruby for the eventing season as I'm not willing to have her struggle depending on what the grounds doing. Having to enter a month in advance means it's impossible to be able to judge what the weather/ ground is going to be like and need her fit and ready to compete.

I will take the shoes back off after her last event in October as she will just be competing on a surface over the winter and does well without shoes.

She is being shod this afternoon for the first time since September 2010. I hope I'm doing the right thing but I think it's best for her with the workload she has.

Thanks again :)
