my boy who has always been a dope on a rope has turned into a complete bolshy git....he's had about 10 days box rest, then quiet turn out in the sick paddock on his own, and now back with the herd. Last week he reared up at the gate before exploding (this was his first time back with the herd). Since then when he's been in he's bolshy and pushy, trying to bite me. They have since changed fields and the grass is fantastic, brought him in for a few hours and he was quiet until I returned and then started being bolshy again. When I turned him out he ripped off buck and squealing

today came in quietly but was a sod to tie up, broke his lead rope and then when I retied him broke the bailing twine, he then refused to walk close enough for me to retie him so I circled him around a few times then tried again, each time he was pulling back and reluctant....didn't even want his hay....eventually I got him close enough and just draped the rope over the fence, he pulled back and was then scared of the rope

I just don't know whats got into him....he's has bad feet for a long time and now we have a proper diagnosis and corrective shoeing so he feels a lot better, but this wouldn 't explain his bolshy silly behaviour, I feel that I am getting out of my depth with him and this is before I can bring him back into work

anyone got any ideas???

Yep. Mine is in the care of friends at the moment cos I'm on crutches, and she is being very naughty apparently

Similar behaviour to yours, and had to be told off alot today before they could finish shoeing her. Joy

one of mine today decided he couldn't remember how to get over a jump today and leave it up. not to mention the door kicking and the sudden urge to attempt to run me over. horses!!!!

I think there is definitly something in the air!

I wouldn't worry about bringing him back into work, you will probably find that once he is working again he settles down.

Yup mine too though nothing quite as explosive as OP horse. We're just improving after about 2 weeks where he's been pushing the boundaries, nipping me when leading him down the field, then trying to drag me off as we come out of the field, grumpy about most grooming, kicking his door impatiently to go into his stable let alone come out, and also he's been testing out the stretchability of his equitie when tied up outside his stable, not broken away with it (yet!). I wonder if it's the grass which while very short is very green at the moment. I also get this most years though about this time and a similar thing for a few weeks as we come out of winter into spring. Then he reverts back to being his normal charming self! Mine also can be funny if his routine gets changed so maybe that's what yours is reacting to at the moment as well?

Mine took me for a full belt gallop with brakes and for no reason around a field, I only intended to tootle.... scarey. Some of the other horses are getting a bit more 'bossy' as well. We've got ponies coming in with bite marks. It must be the time of year..... Grass might not taste as good.

Mine has taught himself that cork-screw-style bucking is brilliant.... After a half-hour lesson I spent about 15 minutes sat down trying not to throw up

I honestly felt like someone had rearranged my insides... O.o
I do hope he gets out of that phase soon....
He's also decided that he's afraid of everything at the moment, his shadow included *sigh*

Not just mine then. Having turned him into the perfect horse he is suddenly being a bit of a git again. Grouchy when he eats and frightening to lead out and back in. He goes vertical and I have never ever owned a horse that did this before. It has happened 3 times this week so I always bring in take out with hat and lunge line. I have discovred I am not as brave as I used to be.

Another one here too. We had mad bronco fits on the lunge over the past two days and taking off, rearing and spooking her way through what was supposed to be a schooling session yesterday. Also did a runner when I opened her stable door and has learnt two new tricks - untying herself when tied up and throwing her headcollar at me when stabled!!!

your'e not alone!! mine has gone from being a laid back and slightly bone idle creature to a fire breathing dragon!! I think change of routine, shorter eves cooler weather and being clipped has alot to do with it!!
