When Blue or Merlin are tied on the yard, and i've put brushes up on the side or hoof picks or gloves or mugs or anything come to that matter, if they are within reach they will knock everything onto the floor!

Drives me mad!

Blue has smashed so many mugs over the years doing this!

I thought maybe it was just him, but now Merlin is doing the exact same thing!

Yup - Wonky does this - I can't leave anything on his windowseal as when I tie him up, it will be on the floor! Ben is not quite as bad, but he is inquisitive, and if there is something different on his windowseal, he will push it with his nose, then jump to the otherside of the yard (breaking the bungie tie in the process) as it clatters to the floor.

Yup Andy does it all the time.
When he is tied up outside his stable he also tries to open my box as he knows his treats in there! Putting things on the top of it to weigh it down doesn't stop him, he still tries to get his nose in there! I tend to give him some hay when I first tie him up but this never keeps him occupied long enough.
He also tries to break back in to his stable, makes a change from him trying to break out though

Yep i have that does this and then smashes things up with his feet. Can't leave anything in his reaching distance.. saddles bridles, rugs, brushes etc.

Yep tote will pick up/ push over anything near him which is annoying when its your uniform! I left him alone the other day and came back to find him stood there with my bag in his mouth!

Yes, Mr M has an attention span of a 2 year old child, so anything he can knock off, chew, smell, taste or get his beadie little eyes on he will, doesn't matter if there is haynet there for him to nibble on, he'll still vandalise anything that's not glued/nailed down!

I'm sure he's too inelegant for his own good, quick to learn, equally as quick to be naughty!

yes this morning i put a headcollar and rug on Monty's stable door while changing rugs, rug got pulled into the stable and headcollar pushed over the door out of the stable.
He hasn't worked out he would get out much quicker if he left things alone.

Yep, id just got my new barnsby saddle, and stood it up about 3 metres away from the ned while i got his bridle. Next thing i heard a scream from my friend, and Hugo is pawing the saddle and almost stands on it...... the little sod - it was miles away! Luckily got away with a couple of scratches!

My (non-horsey but empahetic and smart) ex raised a very good point with me a while back. We tie horses (naturally intelligent flight animals) up, facing walls and expect them to just stand there. How incredibly unnatural/boring!

We should be more worried about animals too uninterested in life to investigate.

OP - You can get some very nice enamalled metal mugs these days...

Both of mine are annoying like that, My 17.2 big boy has to check out everything with his feet, so skipping out is fun as suddenly one big foot will paw at the barrow, he also shredded his brand new rug the other day as it was over his door.

My youngster on the other hand although will steal anything he can get hold of then wreck it, is actually very clever. There is a woman on the yard that is a harsh cow and she feeds them all in the morning. I had my suspicions that she was giving him a wallop as he was getting very head shy and jumpy in the stable, well now he gets his jolly ball or manger and throws it out of the stable at her in the morning and many a time has he caught her!!

He also has a quitkick which when they bang the stable door an alarm goes off and water sprays up, I have also watched him hit the door and duck when she goes past - she gets soaked and he stands at the back of the stable with a smirk!! who said these irish have no brains

My new boy seems mainly only interested in food! I have been spending time with him whilst he eats (too icy/solid to ride) sat on box in his stable. He happily ignores me unless I have a carrot in my pocket. HOW DOES HE KNOW!?
