Have had daughter's pony, Archie, for 5 months now and decided it was time to give him a haircut. We know he was clipped previously but wasn't done last year so unsure how he'd react. Was v scared at first and tried running away from clippers, so I started to sing to him as he was a lot quieter when we'd tried this to plait him. It worked like a charm and have managed to give him a hunter clip, incuding his head! He preferred some songs to others, "Hushaby Mountain" from chitty chitty bang bang was a particular favourite as was "You are my sunshine". Does anyone else have a horse who likes being sung to and what are their favourites?

Haha I was singing today while out hacking, I see my pony's ears flicking back probably thinking 'shut up mum'

Then a cyclist came past who had obviously heard my full rendition of the song I was singing but I hadnt heard him coming

I sing to mine while I'm plaiting but only when there is no-one else around. Not sure he likes it though - I am pretty awful. For some reason I tend to sing Its Friday, I'm in Love by the Cure when I plait, although I have other songs for when I'm jumping or hacking.

My horses always look really amused when I sing along to the radio, especially if I 'prempt' the words. I've always thought it was to their delight, but maybe I'm wrong!!

I sing to Beep sometimes when I am on the ground with him he dosen't seem to mind and I definately get more attention. But I think he finds it annoying out hacking as he bends his head round and gives me a look as if to say 'what are you doing?? Your embarrassing me!!'

I sing to OH's mare when going past the blazing muck-heap...Nirvana...cant remember the song title but it goes 'I'm so happy, cos today I found my friend...'

I also sing ''whats the story morning glory'' when schooling my lad, its a good rhythm to trot to

However..... never said good singing

i sing to my horse when we're hacking out alone. it makes her less spooky, or maybe it just chills me out so she in turn is less spooky... Anyway, she has the joy of me making up songs about her as we walk along. i will clearly never make it as a songwriter...

George is probably the only being that will tolerate my singing!! I often sing on hacks to keep me chilled, but in the stable George goes all soppy if I sing 'Somewhere over the rainbow' - always make sure no-one else is listening!

We used to have a young girl on our yard that was very nervous around her pony especially when out hacking, so whenever she got nervous so the pony didn't sense it we used to get her to sign "how much is that doggy in the window" it became the yard song eventually when any of us were nervous/angry etc, so we kept calm we would rendition "how much is that doggy in the window".

Haha yes I always sing while im hacking out, she is very spooky and it seems to calm her down a lot, either that or she is thinking oh my god please shut up! i sing anything thats in my head! this morning it was alexandra burkes bad boys, yes i sounded awful, good job no one was around! she seems to prefer take that and Daniel Merewhether!
