Poor George who is still not properly settled got caught out in his field in all that wind, rain, hail this a'noon (as it just came out of nowhere) and apparently had a complete loopy. He was galloping around and was too scared to let anyone catch him and kept turning his back end to the YO

Thankfully the new YO is great and realised he was scared and just stood getting drowned until he came to her, she then bought him in and said he seemed genuinely scared - I am so relieved she didn't think he was being nasty. I am now worried that this may happen whenever he is out in bad weather, or am I just being stupid

At our old yard they avoided turning them out if the weather was even vaguely iffy (another reason I left) so he may well have reacted the same way there who knows. Just worried about him at the moment I guess

Our pony goes loopy when its windy seems to get them on their toes ,he's always sharper to ride in the wind and rain , George will be fine, he's not used to being out in it from what you said , if any others were running around it would set him off as well !! bless him he will be fine

My horses live out in sun, wind, rain, hail, snow, thunder and lightning, fireworks....and with RAF jets using them for target practice.
If my two youngsters behaved oddly in bad weather, my old mare would deal with them...

My boy always messes about in windy and wet weather - he HATES it! He's much happier in when it's bad, but on days like today when it just whips up out of nowhere it's a nightmare getting him in. My mare on the other hand couldn't care less! If George is still settling in he was maybe a bit unsure of what was going to happen next, as he's still getting used to his new surroundings? I'm sure he'll be fine.

Poor George.

Our horses stay in if the weather is seriously bad, but they were all out today. And I was so proud of Brooklyn tonight, I had a lesson in really bad conditions (nearly got blown off the horse at one point & had to take the silk off my hat before I lost it) - but he was quiet as a lamb and not at all spooky.

No, he stood at the gate giving me glares. All the others seemed pretty spooked though. Went to first yard and had to shut the exterior top door shut (there is an interior door too, i left the top of that open) and leave lights on for one who was pretty nervy about it all. I had to get my mum to help me bring in though as someone's recycling box had blown over and there were bits of paper flying everywhere

and I didnt fancy leading two down the road in the midst of that.

went to second yard and they were all jumping at every little noise.
Came home and ponio was still glaring at me.

I need to kn0ow the weather forcast tomorrow, some forcasts say the wind will have dropped, others say it'll be worse. I have to go out and not sure if to turn out before I go or not

No, not today. Yesterday however I gave up after 5 mins and 2 leaps. Her field is above the school and she had been watching the rest of them have a little show jump and wanted to join in, so when I got on her she didn't really want to be walking.

My 2 just went over to the winter regime yesterday, out during the day, in at night. I also look after a 3rd horse. All 3 of them came in like lambs today...I bring big ISH in first and my little rescue mare (who things he is HOT HOT HOT) follows behind, no headcollar. She did try to go into his stable WITH him today lol but no probs. Then got my by best boy veteran in ... he comes to call and marched in smartly, no headcollar either. Had to puff a bot to get ahead of him to open his stable door! Thank the lord for a field gate near the stable block, sane horses and routine!

I caught Jim just before the rain started but he was still crazy to handle.Luckily I had him on a double length rope but even so I could barely hold him & shut the gate. I was very thankful that his field is so close to the yard because sidewards canter was the calmest he could manage, not funny in a 16.2 ID!

Even Little Un was wound up (though I did catch him just after the heaves opened) & was jogging - far more shocking than Jim's drama queen antics because this lad never puts a foot wrong!

Well in the lashing rain and wind- she was perfectly well behaved in the school and went very nicely, went out to the field and was fine, came in because the vet was coming, she got her sodium iodide drip for 20 min, went back out and went loopy! Galloped around the field, bucking, rearing, piaffing, at one point she nearly did a somersault! However it wasn't the rain, it was the treatment, that's the third time she's had it and has gone loopy after it each time. Said it to the vet and he guessed that as the iodine affects the thyroid gland it then affects the metabolism which must've been why she went on hyper mode. Thats her last treatment though so that's her last turbo booster!

My boy fine!!Stood in the field with a look on his face as if to say "bloody british winter"lmao!!My thoughts exactly!!

still out, not been in a stable in over a year...

when i use to go out to work, doing factory jobs the horses were kept in a livery yard, it had no shelter in the fields and i use to hate going off to work really early for my 12 hr shift and not knowing what the weather was going to do, should i rug them or not etc..

i went out to catch mine once just as a freak hail episode started, pleasant one moment then blam.. like golf balls, really painful when they hit - didn't stand a chance of catching the rugless horses, they all freaked out proper style!

my mare hates wind and rain have to keep her in as she would hurt herself shes such a wus and cant ride her in it either

I goofed big time! It was just a bit breezy here and quite a warm one at that. I finished clipping my cob and thought that as it was nice and dry and not cold I'd let him go and have a good roll as he's always itchy when he's been done. Went back in the house to make coffee whilst he rolled and had a bit of a stomp about, kettle had just boiled when there was a terrible noise and the rain came down like stair rods.

I belted back outside to grab the boy without stopping for a coat and poor man was absolutely soaking even in the couple of minutes to took me to get to him, stood with his bum to the rain shaking. He thinks I'm a dreadfully cruel mummy and I had to dry him right off and rug him up well because he stood there shivering at me. At least they're easier to dry when they're clipped.

I couldn't believe how fast it happened. One minute I'd been outside in a t-shirt, the next it was chucking it down and the temperature had dropped dramatically. Yuck!

The wind doesnt bother mine, Beau does try to use me as a windbreak coming in though, as if standing behind me will keep the wind off him, he is 17.3hh and Im 5ft 5.

Dot worry too much about George, he is still settling in.

my 4yo hates bad weather. as soon as wind or rain appears he goes nuts and is desparate to come in. this winter is going to be fun

Well I certainly wasn't insane enough to actually RIDE today! That would have been petrifying. They're mooching about rather calmy in the field just now. Looking a bit bored as they do when its a bit wet.

It was snowing here all last night!!
