So I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing but my girl has still got a thick coat, in fact it's not even long like a winter coat it just feels bristley and thick. In pretty sure she is normally all changed by now though.

Is the weather playing havoc with anyone else's horses coats?

The last lot we wormed and turned out shedded their's virtually within 48 hours :) Maybe lob another wormer down her if she could need it and just increase time out :)

I could worm again I guess, why does that help? we didn't worm as a yard all that long ago. She is out at night and in during the day at the moment but I can't really risk more turn out as even with a muzzle on at the moment she is a bit round :D

No idea....just always standard we do with any cobs which are delayed a bit, dectomax and worm them....always done the job, whether it's related, no idea lol!

My girl is only 8 so I cushions wouldn't be my first port of call, although I must admit I was starting to worry. It really feels like she has half a winter and half a summer coat at the moment. Short thick and spikey he he :D

Not mine, they'd be ill, or dead if they did.

It is 5.30pm and 32C (humidex 39C) at this moment in time.

I wouldn't be worrying at all with all this mixed weather tbh.

Some of ours have only only just lost theirs. One of the colts still has a 'half coat' also.

I eventually had to clip one of ours last month during that really hot week, as he always holds on to it forever and just wasn't losing it! Poor thing was so miserable in the heat. Since doing that he seems to have shed the leftover bits (saddle patch / legs) very quickly himself, maybe he just needed reminding.. the weather has been particularly weird this year though, I've noticed a few horses down the road from me are still quite furry.

My 21yr old TB is moulting but very slowly, 14yr old Sec A is hardly shedding at all. Cushings tests all clear so putting it down to this odd weather and their first year living out 24/7.

My 19 year old welshie is still hanging on to some of his winter coat, especially his belly and legs. I had him tested for cushings but results were negative so I've also put it down to the weird weather we have been having. I am thinking of giving him a belly clip at the weekend as he is getting sweaty when ridden. By the time he has lost all of last years winter coat, he will start getting this year's!

Ours are hanging on to it on their bellies, and Coblet has a patch on his rump that he doesn't want to part with yet

The TB had full summer coat months ago - but he was rugged over the winter/spring, but the little shettie has hung to some of his winter coat on his hindquarters and his back. Not worried as i'm pretty sure his body clock is in full working order, he doesn't need worming, its just the weather is so changable - but he knows what he is doing!

I'm sure it's just the weird weather - my Welsh D had shiny silk summer coat by the end of the hot March/early April, and then by the end of May/early June has grown back thick almost velvet winter coat - not the long hairs you get on a winter coat, just the thickness. The sun's been out this week for the first time in about 6 weeks, and hopefully if the sun stays he will lose it again. It just shows how quickly the react to the changing weather - they are very well designed! :):)

My Welsh D has only just got her summer coat. She's a healthy 2 year old... But after the winter, she had one hefty coat to shift, as she lives out with no rugs.

my shettie has a bit left on his belly and my fell has all his baby hair and winter coat. i think its down to the weather one min is boiling next its freezing.

My hunter is still moulting too - she's half dales whereas the tb had her summer coat in March! Mine has been tested for cushings but historically I have always clipped her all year because her summer coat is quite thick so i think I have just forgotten how hairy she is having not clipped her since March! As soon as the weather settles down I will clip ;)

Have you tried giving the horse a really good bath?

My old mare retained alot of coat until I did the above using a rubber curry comb to really scrub the shampoo in and get rid of the excess winter hair.

I had her tested for cushings and blood tested, but I think it is just the mad weather and old age that has caused it.
