Enys still hasn't lost his coat! This is the first spring i've had him, so I don't know if it's normal or if it is to do with him having his accident in January.

Or am I just being impatient? Our other horses all have their summer coats now, even our oldies. Enys' doesn't seem to even be shedding his...

(though as you can see his neck has its summer coat)

Dee only had a head, saddle patch and legs unclipped and i am forever scrubbing with the volcanic rock and rubber curry comb! Its SLOWLY going, the rest of her looks fab! but where the sun has been quite strong of late, her winter coat is bright brown colour and her summer coat dark bay/black :S lol

Be patient.....or buy a dyson and hoover the bugger lol

Hahaha, as if by magic, I think Shy and I have finally cracked it :D That metal dehairer thingy has been working flat out for two months, and now he seems to be in his summer bloomers. Thank God for that, it's been horrendous.

my pony is taking forever! his clip is still in from october last year yet his normal coat is super thick! cant get him to grow his clip in or his coat out haha.

It's only just May. For the unclipped or partially clipped you can expect to wait until June or July for the winter woolies to be shed.

It feels like my cob has been losing his winter coat for months and months! He's grey too so his hair is very noticeable everywhere - my clothes get covered, my car is horrendous and I find hairs all over the house! OH is not impressed!!! :)

Maybe because the weather is so nice I keep thinking it is later than it actually is. :)

Lol - love the idea of using a hoover but his hair isn't loose so that wouldn't work very well.

yep! was thinking earlier though its only just may and as we've had such nice warm weather were all kinda thinking its june/july and they should have lost their coats when in reality its only just may!!

None of mine are fully in full summer bloom yet. Even my tb, though she's nearly there. :) None are clipped btw.

But but but but - the weather forecast here for tonight is -2 !!!!

The word "rug" did flash thru my mind, and out again quite quickly.

my poor little shetland Jenny is still so woolly! She's sweating buckets under her enormous mane as well :( I'm forever rubbing at her with a rubber curry comb (I've always found them to be the best for removing hair - and a great deal of elbow grease) I've spoken to her owner (She's on loan) and she's told me that Shetlands tend to loose their coats slowly and in patches...

My other pony, Danni, was clipped before we got him so the only places he's moulting are his legs and his head, and his summer coat is coming through in a patchwork quilt style :S

I'v always wished we could take it off quickly and easily for the poor things!

big lad as lost most of his but baby is hanging on and jesus didnt realise how much she had - soft downy hair and its non stop - birds nests are cosy this spring lol :)

Lol yes and one jackdaw couldn't wait for me the other day and landed on shetland pony's back and helped himself. :D

I've just about managed to get rid of my TB's coat as I was showing yesterday and was adamant he wasn't going to be a sweaty fluffball lol. I've had two months of hell since he first started shedding and have found that a combination of shedding blade, rubber curry comb and grooming block have helped - as have the three baths he's also had!

He detests being groomed at the best of times and I actually think he hates me for putting him through this so I've made a resolution to fully clip next winter - it's not worth the hassle (and poorly veiled death threats from a psycho horse :D )

My horse has only just decided to start looseing his hair about 2weeks ago. Its driving me mad so far he has summer coat on his ears, his legs and lower chest were clipped out in October and still havnt grown back. He looks bizarre! Hopefully he will loose it quickly now, lots of grooming to be done, and he is having a rug on at night while its to be cold or he may go back to holding onto it! Haha

Mine had trace clip and has shed his neck and hindquarters but he has patchy hair on his barrel. He is dark bay (almost black) and the winter coat has gone ginger in the sun - I'm not impressed! Using metal shedding tool, rubber curry, all sorts and it is coming out. Some days he seems to explode hair everywhere, other days he's hanging on to it for grim death!

There was a magpie sitting on Old Mares back plucking out winter coat today :( Not that she seemed to mind. I guess there is plenty of it to pluck out :D

My shedding blade is getting a workout, but my QH mare is nowhere near done! I was looking at pictures of her last year around the same time and she was a little further ahead, but it's been a cold and rainy spring so maybe thats the reason.

I despise getting it in my mouth when I'm grooming her. There's always someone around having a chat and the next thing I know, I'm eating fur. Blech!

There is an old adage (which I ignored) that says never clip after Christmas...... I clipped a TB on the last day of the Feb Half Term. yes he was stabled, but only ever wore one thickish rug, after he was clipped (as opposed to the other two that had been clipped from Oct who wore three for most of the winter......) And there was many a Spring day when I turned him out with no rug at all - by mid March he had his summer coat and looked stunning!
We now have far milder Springs and fab NZ rugs - so I would urge you all to clip your wooly ponies in Feb, and avoid those horrid months of having to try and get the surplus hair off them......

My cob is exactly the same. He is skewbald but is more white than brown, bloody hair everywhere! When I get undressed at home I even find white hairs down my bra! :D
