I'm clipping 4 of mine on sat, 3 hunter clips and one trace. Would i be very mean to still leave them out 24/7 as the ground is still so dry?

Of course they would be rugged accordingly, i've just always normally started to bring mine in once they are clipped but with 5 to muck out and 3 to ride as well as work full time i thought i might milk it for as long as possible!

Thoughts?

mine will be clipped on Saturday and it will depend on how she is (highland and trace clip).
Will play it by ear regarding if a rug is required (hope not) but she will be living out 24/7 all year!

Both mine are clipped (blanket) and have spent a few nights out with a mw on, they are much better for it and it means im saving money on bedding!

I clipped Stinky early this year as he was getting so hot and he is out with a full clip. So far he has either been in the nude or with a no fill t/o during the day and 100 g rug at night, but this weekend may get out the 200 as the temperature is really dipping.

Will get them coming in in about a weeks time as grass will gone down and the field starting to get muddy by then.

Had the weather been wet, I would have bought him in as I don't use neck covers and our winter field has little shelter for them, but he is young, sturdy and nice and warm staying out so far.

I have two clipped both trace clipps both out, one was clipped about a month ago and didn't have a rug on til last night (only a L/W) which came off again this morning and the other was clipped tuesday and is rugged.

I have a 7/8tb and cob x hackney who are hunter clipped and currently out in 40g rugs during the day and 200g overnight. The tb is a very hot horse and is too hot in the 40g!

They lived out all last winter, the cob in a 370g and the tb mainly in a 200g - until the snow came of course!

Yeah, my 2 are blanket clipped, one with a high blanket and both have medium weights on. One is living out 24/7 this year so will just have a blanket clip redone every few weeks, and the other will be coming in soon and will then be given a hunter clip I think :D

You could always compromise and just do a blanket clip. Most horses prefer to be out anyway and unless working very hard a blanket clip usually is sufficient imo.

Mine get a hunter clip and live out all year round with shelter. They all came out of last winter looking fantastic. If you can stay out 24/7 I say go for it.

I will clip mine soon, they will have MW rugs on and stay out unless we get lots of rain. They tend to stay out unless the ground gets too wet. They come in then more to protect their feet than for any other reason.

Yep, my mare has a high trace and is out in a rainsheet:o
They have occasionally been coming in over night when its been raining heavy, but more for my fields (little cob has big feet!), than for them!

No you are not being mean clipping and leaving them out, my hunter mare ID is fully clipped and lives out 24/7 all winter, appropriately rugged, i have been doing this for 6 years and she is always fine, only comes in if the weather is really bad, snow, endless rain, my youngsters are out all year with only a sheet in the worst of it.

I'm hanging on to clip my boy, he's a complete whimp when it comes to the cold and he's a big hunter type ISH, planning on clipping out full just before he comes in due to all the horses coming in this winter. :)

Hi yes our 14.2 Irish TB has a hunter clip and will live out 24/7 as he is quite excitable and i believe he is calmer out.
He is rugged accordingly - and can go into his shelter if he wishes.
I am hoping to hold my nerve over this and not bring him in when it gets really bad as he lives alone (other ponys across the fence to talk too!) and would have to be stabled alone , which he hates!
