I rode Java today after two weeks off due to the snow which has now all gone although ground is frozen and very slippy as all the water is lying on top of the ground.

When he couldnt be ridden due to the November snow, the first time I rode him after that had gone, he was soooooo lazy and generally quite slow, so I expected him to be similar to that as it was the same period of time he had off.

He wouldnt stand still to be mounted and was staring at everyone even though he is on NAF Magic.

When I got on, instead of walk we did a rather bouncy half trotting walk and if he saw something he didnt like he would just stop still and stare at it.

Once I got him on the bit he was a little better, although instead of our lovely usual flowing trot it was more of a "i want to go faster" trot and I had to hold him back quite a lot. So I just did lots of leg yielding in all different directions and it helped him to concentrate

Maybe if the ground had been good enough to canter I could have got his excess energy out of him faster :/ he was even being a tad fidgety in the stable and normally when we tack up he just stands with his eyes shut

hopefully tommorow's ride will be better :)

Yep! Rode Andy for the first time in two weeks, probably should have ridden after he was turned out but oh well. He just felt like an unexploded bomb but I was enjoying it so not bothered too much.

But then the tit had a gallop round the field and fell over  :( Theres me having a huge panic attack because I think I've just killed my second horse in 2 months. He's okay now though :)

Just keep riding through it, eventually they will settle down :)

Yeah once I had ridden him through it he wasnt too bad :)

The fields just far too slippy to canter or jump and I wanted to jump today as he hasnt done any related distances/doubles or doglegs with me yet and before I go to a show I want to be confident

I know I wanted him a bit faster but today was over fast!

Mine have been off for nearly 4 weeks - mare was 8 weeks into fittening so will now be almost back to square one - gelding was fully fit but he will also have to go back to basic fittening to ensure there is no unseeen damage done to tendons and lungs. Mine will also start off on the lunge. Absolutely no jumping for the foreseeable future though until the boy is fit enough!

All I did was walk round for ages and a few leg yields in trot to keep him focused,

he hasnt been off for as long as yours and hasnt really dropped much fitness which is good!

We had snow for two weeks in November then 4 days where it melted and rode 3 times then, then after that a further two weeks of snow :/

yeah my lad, who is usually an absolute pet, turned into a snorting galloping monster on the lunge today. the sooner the weather gets back to normal the better. I feel like someone a stroppy teenager has swopped bodies with my horse! i want him back!!

i managed to get on yesterday for the first time in 12 days! could only stick to roads as bridleways still very slippy! he was like a ticking bomb, had a nice trot for a short while and then he just wanted to go!!!
i got a new lunging set for christmas so think i am going to putit to good use before i next get on him!

My lad's as fresh as a button, and I haven't even got up on him yet!

Haven't been able to ride in bout 5 weeks because of snow. Now the field is still pretty frozen underneath while the snow has melted so is water logged in places, leaving only the road to ride on.

He actually lost the plot when I turned him out the other day... took off fown the hill flat out, skidded and then jumped over the electric fence  he then just went loopers... bucky bronco would be tame in comparission! Just leading him from stable to field and he's bouncing around, needless to say I'm in no hurry to just hop up, so need to get some where that I can lunge him first.

Im glad its not just me!

He is normally very well behaved last time i couldnt ride for two weeks he was fine first ride back on him, slow if anything!
I have never seen him like that before!
