Anyone ended up with a hosey OH?!

Mine is seriously allergic to horses, so much so that he cant even go anywhere my car. If he comes down to the yard he's eyes get inflamed and he's sneezing for the rest of the day.

He'll come and watch xc if I'm local but that's it, even going into an indoor arena set him off.

He's seriously into football, cycling and rugby. He does read Horse and Hound and Eventing magazine cover to cover if that counts ? :smile3:

After the ex tried to get me 'out' of horses, the next OH had to be horsey or I'd stay single!

Needless to say, he rides, does all the field maintenance, and doesn't turn a hair in knowing what hay, feed and shoeing costs are... (£165 shoeing two weeks ago, £60 feed last week, £180 hay bill this morning :p)

....also went to see a possible new form of transporting the horses about today...! :D

Couldn't have this life-style if he wasn't horsey, we spend between £6,000 - £7,000 a year on our horses. Sure, we could go on a couple of nice holidays for that....but it would mean no more tack hanging in the kitchen, no more 'Can't find me long boots woman, where have you hidden them??' and no more picking hay out of his hair.... :p

Edited to say we have a herd of 6! :D

Hope for mine yet then!
when we got together many years ago, OH didn't know one end of a horse from another - at first he went through the interested but slightly baffled phase, then came the jealous and resentful stage - when he realised the horses were going nowhere, this was followed by the learning to ride stage, followed swiftly by the falling off stage. He now follows the path of least resistance and has reached the stage of being really useful -mucking out, handling and makes a fantastic 'eyes on the ground' trainer. Its been a long haul training him, but careful handling, lots of treats, a firm hand when required and plenty of praise.........turned out lovely!

My hubbies always been into horses and has his own too. We enjoy going out xc training together and hacking. Also handy for one of us to do the others horse if needed - like now as I have a broken finger!
Good so don't need to feel guilty about spending too much time on the horses!

My ex is horsey. We rode together, and spent most of our time in each others pockets. When we were good it was brilliant, the rest of the time it was hideous. We now mainly do endurance having raced previously, and have had some hum dingers of rows at rides. I get much more pleasure from riding on my own, and will probably avoid horsey men in the future. Oh, and I rarely got to go jumping/do any main stream activity, because he hated going, and I couldn't drive our lorry. However, the horses kept us together, and have got us back together in the past. they also still live together!

Hi all.

My daughter has been riding for a few years and last June we decided she could get her own. I have been telling my wife for a couple of years that she needs a hobby so she took up riding and they share.

Now I've not ridden for 18 years or so but just being around the pony, boxing it and going to shows has got me back into riding. I bought my own last October.

We ride regularly together although mainly in the school at the mo and in a couple of weeks are doing the same dressage test!

If I could just get my 12 year old boy into it, I might be able to justify horse No 3!!!!

My OH is very experienced with horses but prefers to take a backseat, being retired, but if I need him, he's there in a heartbeat giving advice, my old mare recently had a bout of choke in the field after a hard feed, he knew exactly what to do, I panic first and think afterwards, my OH just keeps calm and more importantly, keeps me calm, he does ride out sometimes, bad back permitting, I wouldn't be without him

I always thought I could get by fine without a horsey OH but I realised once I started working in racing that there's nothing more attractive than a man who knows how to handle a horse. My OH is capable of bringing in an untouched foal and handling it, breaking in youngsters for driving and training them and it is amazing!

The only problem is he doesn't ride BUT after nearly four years together he's starting to realise that riding out with me would be awesome so he's gonna lose some weight and get riding my mare who's bombproof while I ride my new racehorse out. She's safe as houses and it'll be nice to have a hacking partner :)

Gosh I love him though just for 'getting' what's so great about horses!

Me!

I met him in a riding lesson, he chatted me up while I mucked out my share horse and for our first date he groomed for me at a show. We now share our horse. He is ace at mucking out too.
