My TB came in about 2/10 lame in his hind right 3 days ago, he is not lame on the strait only on a circle smaller than about 20m, there is nothing to see or feel. he was a little reluctant to pick up hs other hind.

He kept pulling it foreward whilst stood in the yard, and when he walks he actualy picks it up a good 2-3 inches higher than the other one.

I turned him out in a small field, to see if any improvement and i think there is a slight one. If no more improvement i will get the vet out monday.

I have never seen lameness quite like it before, any ideas??

sounds like something in the foot? have you checked the heels and if not shod around any area that makes contact with the ground? hard to say of course without seeing him but if he is lifting it that high would suggest he is trying to get it away from something? sorry bet that isnt any use :)

I would actually be tempted to say it wasn't in the foot and more likely something further up be it the pelvis/stifle region or elsewhere. The bringing the foot forward could be to put a muscle/joint in a certain position so to alleviate discomfort, and not wanting to pick up the other leg as that is supporting additional weight.

Is there any sign of a kick mark, swelling or bruising in the area?

We had one like this recently...she had pulled her hamstring. using a biro (with lid on!) gently rub down the back of the hamstring and see can you pinpoint a sore location. Be careful though as they can lash out! you could actually use this to pinpoint sore muscular locations anywhere on the body. we go over ours as a rule a few times a month.

All better :) the little numpty i ssuspect he probably fell in the field and was just a bit stiff and sore.
Thankyou for the suggestions and i will remember the biro trick!

is this the one you thinking about de nerving? if he is walking funny and lifting the leg higher than the other one as opposed to just limping sounds like it might be stringhalt or something neurological going on. if he fell in the field he might have jarred something. i would get the et to check him out properly.

One reason could be he has fallen in the field and twisted of shifted something. I have heard of horses putting their pelvises out through a fall mucking about in the field, or even just a bad stumble. I believe it can show up as a relatively subtle lameness.

It might be worth standing him square and looking at his rump from behind and just checking that his pelvis bones look level, put your hands on each one and see if they are level. If this is the cause a physio can work on it and usually put it right in one or two visits. If you don't think this is the cause you might want to get a full work up from your vet to find out what is going on.
