Anyone ever left their dogs?

In kennels on a holiday site?, I was thinking of hiring a log cabin, the place look fab, it's not really a doggi holiday, just for me and OH to holiday in this Country as we never have before.

but the place does accept dogs.

OH mentioned taking a dog or 2, but I read up that they stay in kennels on the site when you go off for the day, im not liking this at all

, how secure are they and does anyone supervise them

Im very obsessed with trusting my dogs with anyone, other than my mam

which is where the remainer of the dogs would stay, cannot see me being allowed to take 11

Im thinking dogs are staying behind

For some odd reason, I thought they stayed in cabin.......but the more I think about it, the more I understand, they would not want a destructive mutt left behind for the day

not that mine are, but some may/have been.

Any Experiences?

I have never done it - but you never know - they may just love going off to day care (creche) for the day - and bark like mad at all the other dogs! I might consider it myself - and this from the girl who will NOT kennel her dogs again (mine went thru quarantine for six months when I came to the UK - and vowed never to kennel again).

Ive never done it but ive been looking at hols we can take the dogs on and have looked at http://www.wigwamholidays.com/ as far as i know you can take dogs and they stay with you. Depends how much luxury you want i guess!!

Not had any experience but like you I would be nervous unless there were kennels hands present, good strong gates and fences and armed patrols

I'm off camping in June with my five with some friends and their two in the next tent so we can watch each others if need be. Never beed camping before

move, I have just checked my whippet 5 times, and he is only in the garden having a crap

Lol, not sure how many dogs would invite my Akita and rotti to play, not even sure if the kennel people would even dare go near them

Ditto though, I would never leave my dogs in kennels whilst I went on holiday

Ours went to kennels for three weeks in April, but the bloke who runs the place comes to our club and knows them too well.
All Bodo's hair grew back (and touch wood, is till here for now), so he must have been doing something right!


Funny you should ask, I was thinking of applying for a grant to build new kennels here for that very purpose (not because I want a nice new complex, honest...)
The idea would be that we would fence our field into sections and then have indoor pens for night time, and also have someone here constantly to monitor the dogs (not least because we are in sheep country)
I would assume the dogs would go off exploring with their owners most of the time during the day and then be in at night or for occasions where holidaymakers 'vant to be alone!'

Would anyone be interested in this, hypothetically?
We wouldn't want the dogs in the actual place because we have had a few bad experiences (including the people who smuggled in a JRT without telling us and it shat all over a bed

- we wondered why ours were going mental!)

I either go somewhere with Yellow Dog in mind (walking hols) or he stays at my Mum's. If you ever fancy a holiday in Snowdonia National Park in a log cabin where they allow dogs let me know - my aunt and uncle have a cabin they rent out

I've never done this before - we usually stick our two in kennels whilst we're away but its taken 3 and a bit years to find a kennels we would use again. Our Collie is quite timid/shy with strangers so she usually doesn't appreciate kenneling but the last ones we used were FAB and she (and our cocker) loved it.

I have a smallish house, huge garden and a huge doggi room which is an extention, and supposed to be a garage

it's now a huge doggi room

Which kennels did u use? tell me to bog off, if ya like, im a nosey cow

Hehehe, wow, your dogs live in the lap of luxury - essentially they have their own "wing" in your house!!

We use Lanchester Pet Resort, funnily enough in a small town/village called Lanchester just outside Durham. Definitely the best ones we've found.

Ahhh nice one, do I focus your rescue work on just dogs or all sorts of critters? I work for the RSPCA which is just a cattery at the moment but (fingers crossed!) this time next year will have a massive kennels too. Yay!

I don't think I would leave my dogs in the kennels and go out for the day. Like you I would be concerned about the security of the dogs, I have had a bitch that could escape from so called dog proof kennels in 5 minutes. I usually leave mine at home with a friend looking after them. I have on occasions taken one with me but the trouble is on hot days you are a bit stuck. I can see the cabin owners point of view, some friends have a holiday let, a beautiful coach house . The first summer some people went out for the day and left 2 dogs shut in for over 8 hours, they chewed the curtains and peed everywhere. Not really their fault, poor dogs were stressed at being left in those circumstances.

H-H I think the kennels are a great idea, presumably for when people are holidaying with you? Have to say when I did stay overnight at agility shows my dogs were always very happy to sleep in the van but good secure kennels would be a great option.

On the wigwams site the one at Strathfillan is run on land owned by my work, great walking for loads of dogs but also close to lots of sheep! Really nice area though.
