My OH was walking to work at 4am one dark morning. He works on an industrial estate built on the site of an old coal mine.
A miner, looking as though he had just come off shift, walked up the road, said good morning and walked on past.....................and right through the wall of a building.
The pit has been closed for 40 years!
I was riding out one morning at about 7am as I used to exercise my horse before I went to work. We had set off in the dark (all off road) and it was almost light by then. We were heading back towards the yard on a bridleway when I say a figure ahead walk straight across the bridleway. I didn't think anything of it until I realised that they would have had to walk through a 6foot high hawthorn hedge on one side and a 6 foot high panelled garden fence on the other. I can't explain it other than it being some sort of ghost.
we have a very active house, we had a old man the last owner, one day we drove on to the drive and my little girl said its the mans house, that was nice.
i have seen him when i was ironing through a mirror, that became a reason not to do any ironing.
we also have two girls, they can be quite a pain as they try to keep you awake at night
I'm convinced I saw one a few weeks go while driving a bus from Alresford to Winchester on the Alresford Road A31 I think??? I was doing 50mph on the inside lane of the dual carriage way with a car overtaking me. All of a sudden a man dressed in a black suit runs straight out in front of me, right across both lanes and through the hedge. I slapped my brakes on and unseated a couple of oaps!!! OOPs! When I turned around to apologise that some lunatic had just run out in front of me they all looked at me like I was mental! Not one of the 20 passengers had seen him, the car over taking didn't brake and was now in the distance and when I looked at the hedge it was 7ft high hawthorn with no gaps!!! When I explained to my manager what had happened he looked a bit white and said that stretch of road had killed many business men using the road as a racetrack to get to the M3. Do do do dooooooooooooooooooooo :s
I had a similar experience with a ghost at my parents house when I was growing up - but more recently we've inherited a ghost dog at our new farm
Our son can "see" it and we've both heard it scratching at the door to come in - but the other day I came into the room and saw it laying on the floor curled up - a beautiful black and white border collie - it looked up at me and when I looked again it'd gone
Maxwell is always saying "Bobo's here" (he calls all dogs bobos now!
)
There are two rooms in the farmhouse (it's an old listed building) which make me feel uneasy - they feel cold and atmospheric - the dog always lives/appears/is heard in the hallway or the lounge - so there are probably more spirits lurking!
I often feel a 'presence' cold on the back of my neck, sometimes when in bed just dropping off I feel someone sit on the end of the bed, I know it's mum, dad, sister.or nanny, not sure which. I never feel worried as I know it's one of them watching over me.
My dogs will often be sat up looking at me and they are actually gazing over my right shoulder at a blank wall! I was told many years ago that that is because they can see this presence, but I never feel scared.
We recently moved into a Georgian house and I was convinced that I could hear footsteps in my daughters bedroom about 10pm every other evening. It was so clear I thought she was out of bed and sneaking about! Then one night, the door to our bedroom opened and a bright light bounced off our mirror. A very thin child with long brown hair poked her head around and looked at me. I thought it was our daughter at first and started to talk to her before I realised she was too tall, brunette and and about 10 years old! She looked at me for a second and then it looked like she was sucked back out of the room and the door banged shut. I have not seen her since but I still hear her walking about from time to time. I know its her because we have one of those mother of pearl disc chandeliers hanging from the ceiling beneath my daughter's bedroom and when she is walking about it tinkles and shivers (she is NEVER going to be a ballerina). When our little lodger walks about it doesn't move. I know it sounds daft but I went into the room one day and just said out loud that it was her home too and she is welcome. I haven't seen a ghost before but my family do believe in them, banshees and all. Hubby says I was just dreaming but I know what I saw and even he listens for her footsteps now! Luckily the kids are not aware of her, they like to sleep together so the room is empty every other night. Plus, they have literally slept through a car crash outside their window!
i don't think as i remember any of my younger years ive actually seen one, but al lthe storys make you wonder, and yes it scares me i guess :S
i dont see any, but i feel like sometimes im been watched over, when i go to bed, just feels like somethings just standing there or in the bedroom with me anyway.
oh and yes i remember, when i was younger i was sat in the room, and no one was in the kitchen atall, and the microwave was switched off at the wall, and we heard buttons been pressed on the microwave, well i did!
:O
I haven't (or at least I don't think I have) but my mother has seen 2, and my aunt has seen 1.
Mothers - mother and I went to the same school (not at the same time!) and she saw a ghost hover up the stairs from the dining hall across the corridor, through a door and out of a locked window to disappear. The head was walking towards her at the time, and she also saw it - they asked each other to confirm they weren't both mad!
The other one mother saw was her "friendly ghost" - an old lady who mother used to see in her bedroom when we lived in Kent. She used to have "conversations" with her, which used to really freak dad out, as he couldn't see who she was talking to! Mother also says that she thinks she has seen her in the Templecombe house as well.
My aunt's ghost was scary (or she made it sound it anyway!) When "worm" was younger she had a friend in Templecombe who used to restore furniture in a barn nearby. To get to the barn, you used to have to cross an ancient burial mound.
One day she took the dog for a walk to see her friend. The dog was normally was fine going to the barn, but on this occassion the dog started barking like mad, and digging at the ground (throwing up some bones, cartoon style!). Worm pulled the dog to her, to tell it off but the dog (totally out of character) snapped at her. She picked the dog up and walked to the barn. Worm said that there was an odd sound coming from the upper storey of the barn, so she went upstairs to find the furniture literally jumping up and down!
Our long house was so old it had bits of the wreckage from the Armada holding it up, some of the window panes were 300 years old, we were always seeing shadows passing by at strange times, it was normal and we honestly didn't think anything about it.
In another, not so old house, I used to hear children playing and a rocking horse moving, no children, no rocking horse, but research showed that two children died in the house in a fire.
This stuff seriously creeps me out. I've seen some weird things which I cant explain - the main one being when I was out riding in a field with a friend, there was a tractor with those blades on the back for turning hay, the farmer was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly the blades started up... There was no noise at all (engine wasn't on etc.). Both horses ground to a halt and watched them. We moved a bit closer and they seemed to spin faster then suddenly they stopped dead. That was it, but omg it scared the hell out of us!! Apparently the farm we were beside often had weird occurences such as keys appearing locked on the INSIDE of bedroom doors etc.! Lots of things often went missing or were moved. Gives me the creeps just sitting here! I also woke up at a friends sleepover once and literally was frozen with fear. It was horrible, I couldn't move at all but was awake. I think that was that weird thing people can get though!

Sounds like sleep paralysis, I've had it and it's not nice!
One day when I was up the yard on my own in winter at about 8pm , in the pitch black I was rugging up Darcy, and had just stepped back to check it was straight etc and something clearly tapped my shoulder. I fought back a scream!!
Someone who used to work on the farm died on our yard many years ago apparently while doing farm work. Sometimes a woman on my yard who claims she can see many ghosts says that she'll call out "Hello X!!" Thinking a lady on our yard has shown up. Every time no ones been there, she's just seen the figure of someone with a wheelbarrow move across the yard....
We have an 'active' house.....doors open and close and stuff moves around.......its not scary because we know who it is (hello gran)
My daughter is 'gifted' with seeing dead people.....she's fine when its family members popping in to say hello but she gets bothered by spirit children who want to play...apparantly they are drawn to her because they know she can see them....I blame my OH's side of the family....
....it happens to all the women.....
....its not a problem, but on occasion I am asked to go upstairs and clear her room of children I cant see, I have to ask them to leave cos Mia wants to go to sleep.....feel a bit daft but deffo a hairs on arms standing up and a chill down the back on occasions!!!
She was only 2 when it started...she would ask who that grey was when we were out riding in the woods....(she was on her little shettie).......and there would be no-one there........
I was photographing a wedding at an old Mansion last week (Wilton House) and talking to the House Manager we were looking at an old bothy. He said 'look, there's a ghost in it' I saw nothing but it's the closest I've got!
My mother was from a Highland family that had generations of women who could 'see' ghosts. She herself had several sightings, and odd stuff such as phantom pipe music. I was with her once in Edinburgh, walking up an otherwise deserted narrow flight of steps with tall tenement houses on either side. We heard rapid footsteps coming up behind us - like a woman in stilettos - and we both moved aside to let the person pass. When no one did, and the footsteps stopped right behind us, we looked round - and there was no one there ...
Just a couple of weeks ago my OH and I were reroofing the garden shed, when I felt someone breathe on the back of my neck and say Hi. I immediately thought it was him - but when I looked round he was on top of a ladder 15 ft away.
I'm bumping this topic as i love reading people's ghost experiences! Anyone got any more?
The closest i've got was walking into a shed at night to feed rabbits when i was about 13, and seeing slugs everywhere. All over the shed, all over me... cue me running in the house, screaming and tearing my clothes off. Of course there were none anywhere
Ooh, reading all these stories has just sent soo many shivers down my spine! I am intrigued by ghostly goings on. I saw one once in our student house. I was having an afternoon 'siesta' (as you do) and when I woke up I could hear someone breathing next to me in bed. No one there. To cut a longer story short I then felt an arm go across my waist, I tried to get up and couldn't and then from the side of me I saw a man sitting up IN my bed. I just recall he had a trilby style hat on. I tried to scream, couldn't and then he laughed!!! Don't think I've ever leapt up so fast! I can still remember that laugh now.
Funny thing ones one of our housemates had said she'd often felt someone come into her room on a night - we put it down to her having too many vodkas!!! hehe. Think he was rather a naughty man and enjoyed being in a house of girls!
Thing was about a week later one of the people who lived in the house previously told us that a medium friend of a friend had visited once and immediately when he walked into the living room had said did they know there was a ghost sat in the chair?! She told us how the medium had described a man with a hat (we hadn't mentioned our sightings at this point)!!!! Cue more spine shivering form me!!
Some of these stories are really creeping me out!!
I've never actually seen a ghost, but definitely believe in it. My mother, aunts and grandma have all seen or spoken to my great grandmother (her nickname was Mommar) at some point though. I never actually knew her as she died a few months after I was born, but I'm told she was quite eccentric towards the end and had a distinctive smell about her, my mum calls it 'piss and perfume...' She regularly visits my aunt who she was closest to. My aunt runs the livery stables and riding school that I keep my horse at, and she has visited there several times, once my aunt saw her in a field very early one morning when she was walking the dogs. Another time she was stood across the road, watching the house. It does make me wonder if she's checking up on everyone. Mommar also visited my gran one morning years ago and instinctively she knew that something awful had happened and that one of her daughters was in trouble-later that morning she received a call to say my aunt had reacted badly to anesthetic during a minor operation and nearly died.
Another creepy story-a couple of Christmases ago I gave my gran this book which lets you fill in details about your life, it gives you headings and questions and then a page to answer it and therefore write down your life story to be passed on. I knew she'd love it and she spent a lot of time writing it, a year in total. My gran didn't actually have a great relationship with her mother (mommar), despite regularly communicating with her, and had written some truthful but not very pleasant accounts of life with my great grandmother. About a year ago my uncle was taken into hospital very seriously ill, with organs nearly failing. My aunt was an absolute wreck during this time, and begged Mommar not to take him away from us. My gran spoke to Mommar, who apparently told her to rip up the bad things she had written about her in the book she was writing, and she would help.
My gran threw away the book she had half written, bought a new one and started it again from scratch-I received the finished copy last Christmas. My uncle survived and is now fine, I'll never know exactly what she wrote about her, but to this day she credits her with saving my uncle's life, and insisted that we do a toast to her on Christmas day. I know it sounds very freaky, and my grandad thinks its all a load of rubbish but it does make me wonder.
Got plenty more here! It's a bit theraputic writing about them
I used to live in this house in Montreal, Canada until I was 5 years old but my grandparents lived there from the late 1950's till until about 1987. The house was built in the late victorian era (I have two postcards of it from the early 1900's) and some guy hung himself in the 1940's: http://www.flickr.com/photos/garymarvin/971802897/in/set-72157601135102848/
They lived upstairs and we lived downstairs and EVERYONE who lived in that house (except my little sister) experienced things.
My grandfather was sitting upstairs watching TV and he saw a lady in a pink dress standing in the hallway near the telephone table and the smell of roses was in the air.
There used to be old pipes running along the ceiling upstairs put in during the Victorian era but my grandfather had them taken out which left holes above each doorway. My dad saw a black mist floating through one of the holes in the hallway.
When I was about 8 or 9, I was visiting my grandparents upstairs and went to the toilet. I got up from the toilet to wash my hands at the sink which was directly in front of the toilet. I looked in the mirror and there was a pair of smooth kid's arms and hands coming out fo the wall behind me!
Well, if I hadn't of already been to the toilet, I probably would have sh!t myself there and then. I ran out of the bathroom so fast!
Downstairs was creepy too. I remember waking up during the night when I was 2 (yes, I remember that far back!) and walking into the living room to find all the lights on and the pipes in the ceiling talking to me and I taked to them! I wasn't afraid and my mum woke up and brought me back to bed. I asked her about that, and she said that she never used to leave all the lights on in the living room.
Anothet time when I was about 2, I worke up at night and remember feeling terrified to look around (my baby sister slept in the same room as me in the crib next to my bed). All of a sidden, I felt a long, hard poke to my back. Like as if, someone poked up in the back hard and meanly. I was SO SCARED!! I remember looking at the picture of the Pink Panther on the wall (LOL, this was the late 70's) thining he would protect me and trying to believe that it was just the Count from Sesame Street poking me.
On a horsey non-related note, there used to be stables at the back of this house with a long wooden walkway leading from the upstairs kitchen at the back of the house to the hay loft of the stables. My grandfather knocked it down but my sis and I were always finding old carriage horse shoes buried when we used to dig in the yard. I still had one until I moved to the UK in 2000!
