It airs on the 22 aug at 9pm on ITV, been advertised on the the telly :D It actually looks intresting and he goes around the world to see how horses are used in different societies and the bond they share. Plus apparently monty roberts appears on it.....Looks good!! I wish there was more horsey things on telly :( Unfortunatly I do not recieve horse and country :(

Well I hope it doesn't involve mistreatment or getting a horse to strangle itself to death round a pole, as although I understand it is part of another
countries way life, I don't particularly want to see it, so I may watch it or may not.

I dont think it does...Are you referring to that documentry that was on a while back and one of the episodes was about horses in mongolia? And they totally terrified the mare and strangled it before hitting it with an axe :( I had to turn that over...incredibly sad!!

Not really to do with the program,, but I have ridden Martin Clunes horse, and did riding and road safety on him. He was on working livery at the college I went to.

Well they're wrong about there only being 250 Przewalski left in the world, but it looks interesting! Will have to get my parents to record it for me. I want to write a kind of thematic history of horses next, so I'll be interested to see what they pack in as it includes a section on wild horses and Prewalskis.

I saw the trailer last night, and got really excited !! How sad am I - but a programme on HORSES !!!!!!! I loved his dog one. And this one has M Roberts in too by the look of it. Can't wait.. sm x :)

OOOH Great. He was sitting in view of us at HOYS and I kept poking my boyfriend and pointing at him. He explained that he had bought me tickets to watch the horses - not Martin Clunes : )

Im sure it would be the same for all of UK, ITV is called STV up there isn't it? But I still think all programmes are exactly the same apart from regional news

My 1994 zoology book on them says there were over a thousand in 120+ institutions worldwide that year, so numbers must have increased since then! I think that was before they were released into the wild in Mongolia. All descended from nine horses left after WW2

I hope the ones in Mongolia survived last winter, which was apparently atrocious.

9! Bloody hell they have been busy!!!! how on earth did it get that low?? meat? or habitat change??

IIRC only thirteen were ever successfully captured from the wild (the adults were so hard to get that hunters would slaughter a herd and take the foals, which didn't always survive), that in the late 19th century/early 20th. Those produced a population, but a lot were wiped out in World War Two. Only thirty were left, and only nine of those reproduced. Not long after WW2 they were extinct in the wild because of farming/agriculture changes, so only the zoo populations were left.
The ones in Berlin were transferred to Goerings big hunting park in the 1930s, where they were (unfortunately) firebombed by the Allies. Then when the Russians arrived they chased the horses out with tanks and machinegunned them. :(
They've had a lot of issues with inbreeding, not surprisingly.

Love him, he's great, so I'll definitely be watching. Saw him at a Monty Roberts demo earlier this year, and he brought along his horse, Chester, to have a go at join-up. When he achieved it he got very emotional - he's a lovely guy, and the combo of him and a horses on a TV show is not to be missed!

Gosh Suzanna that is awful :( At least its the 21st century and people have more sense now. I can imagine that the inbreeding is a bit of a problem, especially if there was only 9 who produced! And same here mytwofriends, I love a bit martin Clunes, hes great to watch on tv

Me tooooooo can't wait! I loved his dog programme, he comes across as such a lovely, sensitive guy (total opposite of his character on MBB!). I believe he became involved with horses later in life (just like me) so it will be interesting to see what his 'take' on the horsey world is .......
