What do you think he is going to make ? Not saying there is anything odd about this but just a few questions. What do you think their reason is for selling him at auction at his age normally it would be a private sale wouldnt it ? Secondly why a dutch auction as he has always been based in germany? Vary rare to see such a stallion of his calibre at an auction at his age I thought

Rosiebee, The Reesinks (part of the organisers) have their fingers in many pies in both Germany and Holland. The owners of the two stallions may have been looking to sell them privately, but perhaps the Reesink scouts heard of this and it makes their sale far more prestigous to have these types of horses for sale through them.......it pulls the punters in and attracts more people to the sale......i.e. great marketing!!

A lot of stallions change ownership all the time.......whether its part owners, full ownership etc etc.......

French Kiss & Sir Oldenburg are two superb stallions and their stock are doing well, they have high breeding indexes and have done the needful in sport........I would not say "no" to either of them.........

No dont get me wrong lovely stallions and I wouldnt say no to either of them although French kiss is my fav. I understand the workings of the Reesinks and the other partners of the sales. All I was just thinking was that I thought this was an unusal move for a stallions of that age. Have we seen a stallion of French Kisses standard and age sold at auction before? Breeding indexes aside do you think Sir Oldenburg is used a lot considering his breeding lines are not that in vogue at the mo?

Oh WOW!!! I simply MUST buy a lottery ticket!!!

As it is I can put in a fiver - how much do think that'll get me? 1 or 2 tail hairs?

Rosiebee I think you will likely see more stallions sold this way. There are so many "Elite" auctions happening now that they are needing bigger and better names to pull in the buyers.........

I am not sure if any stallions of similar standing have been auctioned this way or not, but several top mares have, and several Licensed & Approved Stallions have gone via PP and PSI........

Plus both stallions are coming from the same Stud of Gestut Schlossaecker, this would possibly intimate to me that perhaps negotiations have been underway for a while... http://www.gestuet-schlossaecker.de/index.php?id=8

Not sure about Sir Oldenburg, have seen a few nice foals by him and know of a couple of owners who used him for 2008.

I wouldn't say no to either of them either, but I think its better buying a euromillions ticket, they have a bigger jackpot!

rb, I don't know the move to sell them at auction over privately, it didn't seem strange at all to me when I read it earlier but I do know its not unusual for a stallion to move country to be sold, my Wesphalian stallion, stood in Belgium/competed in Belgium and was moved to Holland to be sold, where I got someone I know to buy him and bring him over for me.

I agree with you I think there will be more stallions sold of this way. I think recently there were young stallions brought onto big studs with a lot of hype and then sold of at auction to get the big prices. I think we may be saying a new era to the auctions and it is interesting to discuss . Also I am sure Sir Oldenburg does and will produce lovely stock in vogue doesnt always mean the best he has a very interesting pedigree.

HG- The Holland Germany thing it would not have been an issue in my mind either except French Kiss is a big name and I just thought it was a different approach to how high profile young stallions have been auctioned before. I highlighted it more out of interest than anything else to see how the auction market is changing

I actually thought it was an interesting point and like I said when I read it earlier it hadn't seemed odd, and although I didn't have an answer for the move to sell at auction I was just saying i knew another stallion that had been moved to Holland to be sold in the past. I am fully aware that French Kiss is a big name and I guess my lowly stallion wouldn't be good enough to mention that he had also been moved to Holland to be sold, I thought that the fact they were moving these horses to Holland to be sold by which ever method was also worth pointing out, has maybe they are getting more interest/money if the horse is based in Holland for some reason.
