I have been ready up recently on the benefits of feeding coconut oil for weight gain and condition. I have look on the web and found a product called powerstance which is a powdered coconut oil. It has 70% cooconut oil and 30% starch. Also at £40 per 4 kg tub, I can help wondering if I would be getting a better product (and more of it) for my money with regular coconut oil. Any thoughts or experience on the matter? Anyone feed straight coconut oil?

I think this used to be called Copra Meal, whcih is what it is, dried copra ready to feed. it is excellent stuff for connditioning but hard to get hold of for most people. There is a real coconut smell to it, they mostly like it once they have a taste for it.

But the micronised linseed from Charnwood does a good job too and they all love that.

That price for the powder is very high, I paid about £15 for a sack, can't recall the weight though, 12.5kg perhaps?

I feed coolstance copra, which is much much lower in starch, it fantastic stuff and is one of the few things my Tb can tolerate without being a loony or footy! Its really good for putting condition without blowing their brains out, I pay about £16 a sack.

I have used copra meal for the last few years - it is a great way of putting on/keeping on weight without using grains or sugar based stuff. It looks like sand until soaked, then like pale bran mash, and I feed it with alfalfa. I pay £15 per 25kg sack, which lasts my 2 horses about 6 weeks. It makes their dinners smell like a Pina Colada !
