Anyone feed Powerstance or Coconut oil?

Quick reply as if you 'search' you will find old threads on this. I personally would only ever feed this as a supplement by the mugful - it has 21% protein and as a feedstuff it sent my WB loopy. Maybe fine for racehorses as it was designed for to give them explosive energy on the track, but not for riding horses in my opinion.

The copra is amazing though!

It's the copra I refer to. My friend's horse who was on it suffered abscess after abscess and even lymphangitis due to the high protein. Not an abscess or recurrence of the frequent lymphangitits since she took her horse off it. That speaks volumes to me. If you read the feeding guidelines the makers say you can feed by the bucket load. Personally think it would be killing the horse.

I did a quick search but couldn't see anyone obviously feeding it, all seemed to mention Coolstance.

Think I might just go down the linseed route :D

Coolstance is copra or coconut meal. As for coconut oil - I have only ever heard of that used to compliment turmeric and aid the bio availability to horses. I feed linseed - a mugful a day for gut health and condition and that is brilliant stuff. The issue I have with Coolstance/copra is the quantities that the makers suggest you can feed it in.

Coolstance is the same thing, I'm fairly certain it's just a rebrand. Could be wrong though!I've fed copra for years, brilliant stuff IMO.
PowerStance is basically dried co**** oil and is administered as you would a supplement. CoolStance is a feed made from Copra and would replace nuts/mix in a diet. It is claimed to be suitable for obese horses, those with EMS or IR and I have not found it heating in the slightest, however, as my mare is currently out of work, I feed much less than the recommended amount (with turmeric and black pepper), balancer and chaff. I have to say its lovely to mix though - smells like dessicated coconut!

I have used Coolstance and fed about 3kg dry weight a day with no ill effects. The main problem with it is the smell and would imagine with the hard oil it would be pretty much the same and I had to feed a mix as well to get him to eat it. Linseed is so much easier to get hold of and a local product.

Powerstance is made by the same people as copra, it's a very concentrated form fed in small quantities as a supplement.

I'm a big fan of copra, it doesn't hot mine up and he is very sensitive to even a sniff of sugar and of the horses I know, all but one loved it and you could hide any amount of supplements in it.

The one that didn't like it, didn't really like anything. I offered it to him on and off an one day he decided he loves it.

I feed between 500g and 1kg daily. I never feed a much as they say you can feed of any feed, it's always more than mine need as although they are tbs they are good doers.

I had a long discussion with someone at a feedstore a few weeks back about Copra, linseed and a product called Omega Rice

He advised using the linseed as it would do the same as the other two, was fed in small quanities and ended up being better value for money for the same result

That was just his opinion but I bought the linseed!

I feed both, the linseed as a supplement in the minimum quantities needed for omega oils, the copra I use as a feed which provides slow release energy, protein and a mineral profile that fits with my forage.
