Anyone feed Turmeric?

Never heard of that but have heard of people (well, a person) who fed Coleman's Mustard powder

and there's that curry-smelling herb in little balls whose name escapes me which is also fed. Now it's bugging me so I'll have to go and look it up!

Its an anti-inflammatory especially for arthritics. I've taken it, given it to various dogs. Excellent results. Its an Ayurvedic spice containing curcumin. Human dose is 500mg to 1000mg per day ( average size human I presume!) so you can just gross it up for a horse. Try underdosing for a couple of days incase your horse has a reaction. Check out one of the Ayurvedic sites for horses - ?global herbs products or something like that.

Have you tried MSM? It made a dramatic difference to my dog and also horse. DON'T bother with the equine firm who sells it at huge prices.. its mainly full of fillers when you get it through health shops etc. The purest you'll find comes from www.a1msm.co.uk Expensive to buy - go to the equine page for best rates and dosages - but you use much less as it is so pure so works out much the best . They are also very helpful.

Got an arthritic lab and would be interested in feeding it to her.

Also got dodgy joints myself, so would be interested to know the same for humans!
 
Turmeric from HealthSpan is good and pure and strong. Check their website for dosages. Scale down for dog. Comes in tablet form.
Really do suggest you give the dog MSM, there is alot of research info on how good it is.
 
If you have face book search Turmeric users page. It's been set up by a vet who's done stacks of research. It's a very active page so constantly new info and advice. In the files at the top of the page dosage etc is explained for dogs, horses and I think other things!
You need to mix it with pepper and certain oils to get the maximum benefits, something to do with increased absorption I believe. It's worth a look!
 
As poiuytrewq said take a look at the Turmeric User Group page, lots of info and very helpful members. I've had both my boys on it now for just over a month.
 
You can buy a big bag of it quite cheaply in the 'world foods' bit of a large supermarket or at an Asian store. I tried putting a bit into arthritic dog's dinner. He apparently doesn't 'do' spices and refused to eat food. I would try putting a small bit in to your horse's food, see if he accepts it and then gradually increase dose to a couple of spoons. It is an acquired taste (one which my dog refuses to acquire!)
