Are they out 24/7 or in overnight ?

Can't remember when we usually start putting hay out?

nope not yet - will probably start next week although I don't think one of my boys will touch it until all the grass is gone!

Out 24/7 atm, in a couple of weeks 2 of them will be stabled at night and then they will all start getting hay (inc the ones out 24/7). Unless the weather turns a bit and they start looking miserable, they do like their hay and its good stuff this year

My 2 have been having hay in field for months now coz the grass is non existent, i have even had to bring them in at night much earlier than i wanted to because they were so hungry and getting grumpy. So now they are getting lots in the field during the day and lots in the stable at night!

Yes, been giving hay for about 6 weeks now as grass has been awful, we've had hardly any rain all summer ! Ours are in at night with ad lib hay

No i have a field that looks like it,s spring still! don,t get me wrong i,m loving it. Usually by now like last year it was very wet and the gate way was a mud bath but this year i still have grass by the gates. The newforest youngster is quite fat so will let him drop some weight before i start giving hay hope this nice spell lasts i,m saving a fortune.

Yes ours are out 24/7 still and have 2 slices each at night when they are moved into a smalled paddock with not alot of grass at all. This we have done since end Sept..... By day they are in a larger paddock with a bit more grass, although horses still look quite fat from the summer so think we are being quite generous!! lol

Yep my 3 live out all year round and normally they wont touch hay until its really cold and all of the grass is gone but I have found them really hungry and they are eating all thats put out for them, have been feeding them for about 6/7 weeks.

Traditionally I usually start feeding hay in the field about now (mid October), but this year I've been very lucky and I haven't had to yet. Mine live out 24/7/365 and although there's not masses of grass, there's still just enough. Current plan is to move them into the winter paddock in about a fortnight, where there is still some ungrazed grass. So with luck I won't need to start haying until mid November (which will save a fortune!).
