Anyone flying to Antalya, Turkey anytime soon?

Hi guys,
I forgot to update everyone (if anyone WAS interested)
However, I called Westgate again explaining my situation and they said they do take international samples, as well as saying the transport of saliva and fecal samples is in fact not illegal. My dad successfully made it to the UK through two connecting flights, through 4 sets of security (baring in mind the samples were in his hand luggage) with no issue…
Anyway, I couldn’t send the fecal sample as it wouldn’t get to Westgate in time, so I started calling the Turkish hospitals…No one answers the phone, no one answers their email and the only hospital that did answer very abruptly and gruffly said they do not do equine fecal tests…Soooo, that pretty much concludes it. I will be continuing to nag at all the university vet hospitals until they do answer

Thanks all.

No one said it was illegal 😂, even more so if you don’t declare them.
Maybe i read wrong, but people were saying the transport of these types of samples (forgot what they were called) was apparently illegal as they could bring diseases to the uk. (unless they were shipped through a courier under regulations)

I think you misunderstood a lot of the posts that were trying to be really helpful. Things aren’t illegal with the correct paperwork. Hey ho at least it was your dad not anyone else.
There were definitely some posts towards the start that said the transport of samples was illegal. But anyway, at least I could get to the bottom of it somehow. I don’t really know how my dad got through security if he didn’t have any paperwork. Or maybe Westgate supplies with prepaid paperwork. I don’t know

It's not security, it's customs you have to go through. Before you get out of the airport, you can go through customs to declare things that need declared.
Security make sure you are not carrying anything unsafe in the airport or plane, customs make sure you are not importing stuff in the country without proper checks. It could just be a large sum of money in cash for example, or making sure a plant doesn't bring a new disease, etc...

It's possible to do your own fecs. There is a learning curve and the purchase of some equipment (microscope, slides) is needed, and for one horse it might seem a bit over the top, but it would be one way of getting it done and keeping that aspect under your control. Westgate might be prepared to give you advice on that, but the procedures are googlable.

There are legal ways to transport samples of biohazardous material and there are illegal ways to do it - such as unrecorded import in hand luggage. Just because he wasn't caught doesn't mean he was operating within the law.

Hmm. Now I understand what the problem was, however again I still think Westgate should’ve mentioned it to me…But they didn’t, they just told me to collect the sample the final day i was abroad…I find this all very confusing. thanks for confirming
