Quite a general question...! Great country for horses, very friendly folk, small 'scene' (small world!) but very expensive on everything except petrol, which is slightly cheaper than UK. Have to choose area carefully for good hacking since there aren't even footpaths here, let alone bridleways. Prices of livery/property depend very much on where you are. I love it, but then I'm lucky with my job. Northern Ireland may be a cheaper alternative.
agree with the poster above, massive difference in scene, facilities and prices depending on the area. had you anywhere in mind? or were you looking for any particular scene?
I'm in Northern Ireland... not really on any "scene"... I'm more of a happy hacker... my old horse died, so I just got a new fella and I haven't had him long enough to attend any meets or events. Le Trec seems to be taking off here though. There's pretty much stables within a 15 mile radius of anywhere you go in Northern Ireland.
When I used to go out hacking on my old horse, bus loads of tourists would pull over and take photos of us trotting by... highly embarrassing. lol.
