I may have to move to Milton Keynes as my OH may be starting a job there.
I was wondering if its an equestrian friendly place or not? is there lots of off road hacking available? and what are DIY livery fees like?

thanks

I'm just outside milton keynes, I love it where I am, we have 25,000 acres of off road hacking, lunge pen and indoor school. Only down side to that if I sell a horse I really have no idea if it is good with traffic as I have never had to see any! I can only really give you an opinion of my yard, we charge £35 per week for DIY Grass Livery, this includes haylage, or £40 per week inclusive of all basic feed, with a stable it is £50 per week and that includes again your haylage, feed and straw, with 24/7 onsite staff. Not sure what the other yards in the area are charging but you are spoilt for choice in this area.

Hello and welcome to concrete cows land LOL. I really like it in MK (my horse is kept in a village about 15 mins from MK). The hacking in MK is good as there are loads of horse tracks all the way round. Many of the hacks even avoid road work altogether. JavaJane is prob the best person to ask about hacking as she runs a yard in MK. We are also near MK Eventing Centre and Addington.
Regarding yards there are quite a lot! Here are some with websites:

There are also a lot of yards in Bow Brickhill just outside MK. These are near the Woburn woods which has fab hacking.
Other villages with yards include, Drayton Parslow, Mursley, Newton Longville, Olney.

Here's a link to one of the biggest saddlers in the area. They will prob know of far more yards than I do and are really helpful:

Hope that helps a bit

i live in Olney, just outside Milton Keynes and work as a vet in Newport Pagnell - didn't find any suitable yards up this end, so have got my horse down the south end of MK in Little Brickhill - he's just on grass livery at £10 a week, but that's all I need for him. There are stacks of DIY yards around and posher yards too. The hacking down here is fab - I go out in Aspley Woods and you can go a different route every day - all sand tracks - fab!

cazza - out of interest where are you? Sounds good? Only thing I dont like here is that I dont have a school. Would love to find somewhere that did grass livery and had a school - seems to be impossible to find!

i couldn't have done in the past, but now my pony is old and semi-broken so should only be hacking anyway, so not having a school means temptation is out of my way as i love schooling!
