i didnt go, but 2 people from my yard went and i am just hoping they come back in one piece!! Last time they went out to a hunter trial, one fell off twice round the xc and the other came off at the first jump and was knocked unconscious!!

Was it a nice course there?

I have to say when I walked the course yesterday ( I only did the 2'3 class with my youngster) I didn't like it. Was more showjumpy than xc in places with seemingly random portable jumps. It actually rode quite well and the SJ was OK - we went double clear so I was v happy.

I went - and lets just say it was treated as a schooling outing!! First time we have done a ODE and my boy was very green - I was pleased with him though as we did the second class and a few of the fences were quite spooky - got round and came home in one piece. He did a beautiful dressage though and was one of the higher marks in my section - so very chuffed with that!! Got lots of practicing to do!!!

Both my mares and mine first ODE ever! I was not keen on the XC as it was rather inconsistent but it was fine. Rode quite well except fence 5 as it was kind of tucked behind a huge palisade thing. We had a poor dressage, we were trotting around the arena what seemed like forever and by the time we wnetered my lovely long horse that I had managed to roound up had gone flat and switched off. We got 45! SJ was great for her as last time out we had a major napping session and rearing fit. We managed to keep her forward and rolled 1 pole. XC she was great as only been XC schooling once we had 4 stops at 4 different fences. We stil managed to come 8th though! I am pleased but have a lot of work to do

Thats the same as me! Technically we were eliminated in the show jumping as had a stop at that squiggly blue planks fence, and then the one everyone had problems, the last double with the swirly fillers under - he jumped both second time though and to be honest we have never really done much jumping with fillers so I was happy! We had several stops on the xc - but mostly fences that I didn't like so I think it was a subconscious thing on my part - think we would have been eliminated about three times over on the xc - but we finished and jumped the spooky sack fence I didn't like - so I was really happy - he did a 33.2 dressage which was the third highest in the section - so was really pleased with that - but we do need to practice our jumping and XC!! Lots of homework - next outing is the HT at Chilham in May - can't wait to get him out again now!!!

Well done on the dressage. I was pleased mine didn't look at the fences in the SJ and I was confident we could jump every fence XC. I did the baby course though, sounds like you did the next one. I am planning on some more stressage lessons now and may attempt another ODe next month? Not sure what else is on soon to get the XC more established. Went schooling at Easy Byshee but I am not over keen on that course

Where abouts are you? I am going to go over to Coombelands and also go down to Chilham before the HT. There is a ODE on bank hol monday may 28th at Coombelands and really like it there so may do that! I never thought I would even get round the XC - as I am really nervous about it - but just finishing gave me so much confidence - I am starting to really love the XC - and can't wait to get out and practice. He didn't look at any of the other show jumps, so I know we just need to practice scary fillers - think I may buy some to practice with at home!!

I am based in Horley, I would be interested in having a practice at oombelands as I would like to do the ODE and want to see what kind of fences I am facing. She is fab with water. Has a thing with bakns and ditches but it is a confidence thing. Is anyone offering training days there? I can only do weekends

You can go schooling there any day of the week, there are no training days coming up on the website - but there may be people going up there for training - it is such a nice place to school as they have really teeny fences up to really big fences!! I took my horse there for a clinic for his first time XC and it was lovely! The ODE is run by www.hdrc.org.uk and it looks nice heights - I will prob do the first class unless I am feeling brave!! Have a look on www.coombelands-equestrian.co.uk
I am the same with ditches - I don't mind straightforward ditches but I hate ditches under jumps as I am convinced that he will get right up to it and slam on the breaks!! I also hate fences that drop away after them - hence my refusal at 'Into Space' yesterday!!!!

I would def have to do the baby class, due to my horses reactions to SJ at SAnds in the winter. THough I am riding a lot better now.

They also have a sj course you can hire there aswell! I need lots and lots and lots of practice before then!! Especially as my aim for this year is to do an Intro!! AH!! Although the height of the fences was not a problem yesterday - I need him to see more things!!

Sounds the same as my horse, I have never done a ODE but was so relaxed and really enjoyed it. I need some serious stressage training and to carry on improving my jumping with her. It is all time and money. I am pleased though realised I thought I was quite fit but after horse dying after fence 7 I had to really ride and I was exhausted by the finish

Tell me about it - I realised how unfit I was about halfway through the course and how much my legs hurt!!! I was so hot when I got back - makes you realise what all the fuss is about xc though - such a buzz!!!!

We had better both start running or cycling! I had to run from the Sec tent to the loo as I was running a bit behind for dressage and that in itself killed me.

There was a couple of nasty falls and I hope all those are ok

Thank you and hello to fellow competitors!
Was fun wasn't it. I think Coombelands great place to practice for ODE as can sneak into the grass dressage arena as we did then hire the SJ and XC and pretend doing mini ODE without the stres.

Hi, we went, and weren't very happy to be honest! Didnt think the sj was great, which i think was reflected by the number of falls/stops and i think the xc asked too many questions for an unaffiliated 2'9"-3'.
Mine did an ok dressage (37) then had a few down and a stop sj (she never stops!) and i retired her xc as i felt she was losing confidence and wasn't taking me as she normally does. Bit disappointing considering she flew munstead intro double clear, and coombelands 3' last weekend! x
also - cant download the results from their website, is it just me?!x

EventingDiva, sorry to hear you had to retire, there was a lot of problems on every course. Which is why I am chuffed not to have got eliminated and my horse to have gone the best yet. The XC was not very flowing on any course. I saw my friend do Twesledown and the course rode a lot better

Sorry you didn't have such a good day! I should have been eliminated several times over - but as noone stopped me I just treated it as schooling and bumbled round! I agree it wasn't a very flowy course, maybe she wasn't feeling quite right?
