I went, it was ok, great dressage 27.5, 3 down sj and poor lad tripped coming into the BE100 8th fence xc, stumbled and fell down onto his legs with his head dangling over the top step down, he was a bit shook up so had to retire which is a shame as we were having a great round up till then. It was really hot and dusty though and they were running well behind time in the sj which wasn't fun in that heat, but all in all I enjoyed the day.
WOW, BID, I'm sooo jealous of your dressage score!
We had a great day with a double clear but my lad is no warmblood so we're struggling to get those nice low dressage marks as our paces are somewhat "pony" (something we're working on, of course).... in any event, we were too slow to get a placing tho (it was only our 2nd pre-novice and I rode it way too conservatively really..... but hey, we've lived and learned for our next outing!!)
Wow!! That is one hell of a dressage score! Jealous of you there..... And super well done for the double clear! They were really hard to come up so very well deserved. What did everyone think of the xc?
Im sure the photographer was John Britter but nothing on his web site yet
XC...Jumps were nice BUT as we were going to walk the course I joked with an owner that the road we were walking down used to be the ground on the course...I then realised I was walking between fences 1 and 2!!!
I also found the SJ warm up terrible and asked for the spread to be moved as there was a huge hole on landing.
I was hoping that the event had changed since I last went but sadly not...we will only take horses that need to 'hack' round a xc in future.
Thanks for letting me know about the photographer, i agree about the ground, like you i remembered when i walked the course why i hadn't run there for a few years!! The course was nice, i had a hesistation at the step down but otherwise she flew round, it was her first PN and she did a 34, and 1 down, so very pleased.
Photos are up.
Last time I was there was about 5 years ago, it's not changed. SJ warmup is a sand pit full of stones and the XC course was v. deep (I went on the second day) or a road surface. Having said that I had a good day, my horse was not phased by the going, just cantered around and we came 5th.
Agree re going but I still thought it was a lovely event and I would definitely go again. I thought it was quite an interesting course, lots of steps and v few real 'solid' xc fences but still enough fences to cause a few problems!
