i've never been before but i might try to go this year. i think its a week toay.

i really want to go just to see what its like because my pony was sold there originally when he was taken off the welsh mountains. it would be just nice to see what the atmosphere is like there and whether there are any bargains you can get there.

so anyone else going?

I am thinking of going - but concerned about taking the trailer as I suspect so many get nicked off cars there. I am wanting a hairy cob, and going down the private sellers route is failing miserably so may resort to the sales to see what is around

I know for a fact that most of the shops in Stow, Moreton etc, actually lock their doors during the fair. That should give you some indication of the high level of thefts which seem to occur during the duration of the fair!

the atmosphere can only be called 'interesting'.

stalls lined up with garish clothing and tablecloths, old tack, puppies and songbirds, troupes of girls from the travelling community wearing inadequate clothing and too much make up in the highest heels on the look out for the best looking boys. the boys in their own groups, following a prize fighter like a row of ducklings lurching from fight to fight. skinny ponies terrified from the New Forest with wormy pot bellies huddled together and danger on every side from wild eyed harness ponies belting up and down the Maugersbury road at a spanking trot

Any body who harbours a romantic notion of gypsy horse fairs would be disappointed by Stow

i just want to go because i want to see what it would have been like for my pony, thats what i meant about the atmosphere.

apparently they whacked my pony around with a metal pole and then beat him into the horsebox.

my boss has brought somne nice ponies from there in the past and my pony is amazing too, so even though the horses look terrible, with some TLC they can blossom into fab ponies!!
